Heading up to Lejeune in June for Sgt's course (finally). Not going to be able to drive the Wagon as it will cost me a million dollars to drive that far. I will have my Ram (tow pig). I'd like to meet up with some MJ'ers and get a beer, fish, wheel, or whatever if anyone's up for it.

I'll be on deck down there 15-19 June from Quantico.

Check in is supposed to be 16 June for me. The upper management is still deciding if I'm going to 05-09 or 06-09. Most likely I'll be there the 16th. Give me a call when it gets a little closer.

I'm always here. LOL. Do yourself a favor. Despite where your orders say to check in at, They moved the academy to Camp Johnson; out at Montford Point. Every class they come to my office and try to check in, as it used to be the Sgt's course office. I'm at MCT. If you are going to stay at their BEQ, that is still on Camp Geiger right behind my building. By June, I should of switched jobs there, so you won't see me parked there. I'll still be around near MCT HQ. PM me when you get in. Maybe the three of us can grab a refreshing beverage.

Wife actually told me to drive the Waggy, "so I can work on it, while I'm there." That should go in the Things Sig-O Has Said, huh? I think it's an attempt to keep my ass out of the bars, and a damn good one. But hell, that's a pretty good time to me. Gonna have to leave early and fly-by-night, but at least if the Ol' Beast makes it there, I can go play. This may be a big test to drive it from north FL to NC with a 3spd Auto, w/ no O/D & 33's w/ 4.10's. Will pack my tools and my "oh-sh!t-kit" and a box of fluids.... I don't know if I should do this or not. :o

Sounds like you are going to have a bit of an interesting trip! You an airwinger or a geek from Corry Station? Look up J'ville Jeepers if you haven't already, lots of locals on the board.

Marinedawg- Cool, sounds good. I will be driving the Ram though, it's too much to ask of the ol' Wag to put in that many road miles.

Hey Gents, getting ready to head your way next week. Be cruising in the Wagon. Been going back n' forth with the wife over which rig. I'm not going to leave her with the Wagon for two months. I can McGyver pretty much anything, but hope she makes it...leaving here Saturday. I'll be taking it slow. Any suggestions as to best route? Making frequent stops. Checking into the bricks on the 15th.

I would take 10 over to 95 N then once in Northern end of GA jump on 17N. That will bring you up through Myrtle Beach and into Jacksonville. Long ride but you need some kind of scenery regardless which way you go. You could make a stop or two in Myrtle.:beer::beer:

I was looking over the maps and thinking I-65 to I-85 to Atlanta, cutting over on I-20 then taking 76 to 17. Ever been that way? scenery would be great, but I'm dipping into pockets for this one. I know gov travel compensation ain't goin to cover all the gas I'll be burnin'. I'll PM you my cell, as I won't have internet untill I get situated.

That's not a bad route. I"m pretty sure I've taken that one once to get back here. I suggest going through Myrtle Beach also. Nice scenery! I'm going to be going through there also next week on the way to Parris Island. I have to pick up my sister from boot camp. Marinedawg ---- STFU. LOL. I'll be back later that weekend. I think some from our club are planning a URE trip the same weekend. What's another 3 hours?

I think the guys over at IFSJA.org are doing a trip that weekend. East Coast Invasion or something like that. Going to be a shit-ton of FSJ's. What's another 3 hours?-----about 100 bucks. I don't have that right now. Believe me, I'd love to go out there, but I'll probably be getting in on Sunday anyway.

Buddy is going to the Staff Academy driving a 1990 1/2 ton Suburban 4WD. Lots of towing capacity. Was thinking of putting on the little tires and throwing on a rigid tow bar on the Wag and riding with my buddy. Even if I split the gas 50-50, I'd be saving about $100 in gas and that's after buying $150 dollar tow bar.
Way I figure it(estimated):
roughly 750mi 1 way
calculated @ $3.00 per gal
Jeep- Suburban-
One way:
$200-225 $130-150
10-13mpg 15 mpg towing
Round trip:
$400-450 $260-$300
Tow bar=$150+$150(round trip, paying half) for suburban, hook up my buddy,
So $300(???) total for me and his gas costs half for him.
Also no real wear on my rig.
Sounds like a good deal to me.
I think this will work... Plan on taking it easy, as I know stopping power is greatly reduced by adding the weight of the FSJ w/ no assisted brakes.
What do you guys think? Going to U-Haul to look at Tow Bar today to make sure it will hook up securely to the FSJ.

You are going to get just over $.50 per mile back on your travel claim, which means a little over $750 for mileage...just drive the damn thing...you won't burn half that in fuel even at 10mpg at $2.50 per gallon for regular unleaded.

Noted, but I'm worried about making it there. I can see running High RPMs for a while and something exploding under the hood:eek: She's mechanically sound but I'm not trying to push my luck, you know?

That being said, take your time and go easy on the rig. Leave earlier if you need to, but take your time!:D

If you are concerned about it don't push it. Tow it behind the burban. That way you will have it if you want to go to URE with us.:beer::D

I'll be getting in Sunday. Probably not going to hit URE, as bad as I want to. I've been drooling over that for a while and wish I could. I'm down to hit some local holes with you guys or go out on the weekends though after I get settled.

Here I come!! hooked up a tow bar and Jerry-rigged some lights to keep it legal. Heading up the coast and stopping to see a buddy at PI. He's gonna put me up for the night since we're getting hosed and not paid for lodging.
