Everyone with or without a winch can benefit from the WARN Winching Basic Guide file attached.
Basic stuff here but it does give the new and old alike a chance to refresh what they do or do not know.
In particular is the winching Hard & Arm Signals shown. (One signal not shown and often used is the signal to the driver [winch operator] that the Recovery Leader (RL) [the guy managing the winch cable/rope] that he is going to put his hands into the winch and adjust the cable/rope alignment. At that point the driver will set down or do a low hold on the controller so he does not accidentally power in and cut the fingers off of the Recovery Leader.)
*The signal is done by the RL pointing both hands with finger extended toward the winch while moving your hands in an in & out movement. This is often acknowledged by the driver with a nod or the RL will see the driver comply accordingly.)
**From a military standpoint: Of course at night under Nods, this can be more cumbersome and hard to see the drivers actions.
