Please take a second and cast a vote in the poll above to allow for better refinement in both content and format of information/checklist post like this one. Be brutally honest with me and yourself when you vote. If you have specific feedback you want to share you can do it here in the forums or PM me for a more direct line. Our desires is to improve the product and supply it in a manner that is easy to use, print and keep in your Jeep or other austere mobility vehicle.

Well, like most folks in the military, I am a big fan of checklists. Keeps me straight and on task I guess besides it is a sanctioned technique by 7 Steps for Highly Successful People!

I have posted this on my home club's web page (Beltway Jeepers) and a few folks found it useful. Hopefully the same is true here as well.

There may be one or two steps that I will skip depending on then the last time I checked that item. For instance, if I just changed my diff fluid and have not been in any water or mud since the last ride it will be a visiable check looking for puddles. If I have been doing water crossings then I will check......one group of items that always gets check and serviced is the recovery gear. That is just the way I roll, you all have your hang ups and this one is mine.

Hey Fifthpro, I can't read it. Even when I click on it and zoom it. Even tried zooming on my laptop but it just made it fuzzy.

I like checkists also. I have one at the cabin for shutting it up when leaving. Nothing like getting home then wondering if you turned of the LP gas.

HillBillE,
Thanks for the feedback. I checked it again on my system and when I double click on the file, it opens in another window. When I place my cursor on it, it has a magnifying glass with a "+" symbol. I simply click on the picture again and it magnifies it to full view size.
Try this and let me know if that works for you. If not, can you tell me what version and browser you are using; example I am using Internet Explorer 7 Version 7.0.5730.11IC, FireFox, etc. and I will try to get to the bottom of the issue.
Obviously if you cannot see it, then the intent is not met! Awaiting your feedback.

I have IE7. It works like you describe, but even with the "+" pushed, I can only see the larger print. Could be me eyes:eek: When I blow it up more, with the 'page' feature on my laptop, it gets to blurry. Thanks

EDIT: I'm going to print it and see if that helps, but I need to put in new black ink, and I'm not sure where the wife hides it. I'll report back tomorrow.

I had to Save Image As, and now I can Print and such. I like it. I couldn't think of anything better. It's gonna get laminated and thrown in a checklist book. I just have to find the book I want to use. Here's another question...does anyone have a Service Rotation? Such as, this month I'm gonna do diffs, next month I'm doing this, and so on and so forth. I know that a lot do it as needed, but I figure if I do something once a month, it'll get rotated normally enough. Should I start a new thread for this?

The originial size of the checklist was formatted in Power Point and designed to be cut along the provided border to fit into the military Flight Crew Check List Books that the Air Force and other branches use. Let me know if it does not work that way and I will send you the Power Point version that is guaranteed to work as intended.

HillBillE,
I hope that it is not you eyes but......maybe the resolution of your laptop. Try the "right click" and "save as" feature and see if you have full control of the viewability in a picture viewing software you have installed.
I admit, more effort than I intended one to have to go through to view the information. :o

HillBillE,
Did we get you up and running? Full vision and control using that method?

Excellent checklist. I voted.

You asked for comments. After review, I suggest:

Under Hood: Add check power steering fluid and pump.

Under Vehicle: Add check engine, transmission, transfer case, and axle yokes for leaks. Check driveshafts and yokes for damage. Inspect skidplates for damage and loose fasteners.

Tires and Brakes: Check inside and outside of wheels for mud or debris that will cause damage or affect wheel balance.

Inside: Check operation and channel of CB Radio if equipped. Condition of antenna. Condition of batteries for FMRS/GMRS radios.

I respectfully request that you check the file! Everything you suggested is there; almost verbatim! :D

found this site http://jeep.us41.org/service/index.html , but with the components that end up under water, check the fluids after every ride

I voted: Bad: to general and covers stuff everyone already knows. Needs refinement in content and format
heres why;
The list is VERY general. it covers everything that needs to be checked but it doesn't cover what needs to be checked. Like check steering compenants. OK they are there. Add in check steering components for loosness, torn greese boots, bent tierod or draglink. Check shocks for leaks, torn boots (if used). Check DS's for "play" Check UJoints for Play.
Well you get the idea.

covers stuff everyone already knows. this part I disagree with which is why I say add more.

As for format I would break it down like a PMCS before during after checks.

I think you have the working of a great product and your doing a great thing.

Fred,
Thanks for the feedback and opinion. I fully understand the point that you are making and I think your definition of a "Checklist" differs from mine. I see the checklist defined as being used as an aid to memory. It helps to ensure consistency and completeness in carrying out a task. A basic example is the "to do list."
Your definition seems to be more in line with a "How to" or "How to do list" with instruction vice the Checklist it is meant to be. A more advanced checklist would be a schedule, which lays out tasks to be done according to time of day or other factors as you suggest.
If you would like to take the Checklist and produce the more definitive How To instruction sheets and share them with the club I am sure we would all benefit from your efforts. If you need any help with the formatting or want to incorporate your data into the already existing checklists I would be more than willing to help.

Cheers!

I can throw something together. I was leaning more towards, your taking jhonny lightning out for his very first ever trail ride. a week prior give him the list so he knows what to look at.

as a check list for you and experianced guys yours is pretty good. I think something you could laminate and put somewhere out of the way would be cool

Laminate...good idea. Add a grease pencil and you're good to go, can leave in Jeep without worrying about legibility afterwords.

Will definitely utilized this type of list when the time comes. Excellent job, Fifthpro, thanks for the time and effort you put into this and sharing it.

Thanks JK Offroad. It appears that Fred is going to take the ball further into the Red Zone by adding some additional information.

Fred....where do we stand with the new enhanced project?

Fred,
I am starting to work more on the handbook and was wondering if you had the opportunity to work on the portions that you desired to enhance and upgrade.
Hopefully you will be able to assist in the near term.

Cheers!
