I finally had gotten my Jeep after years of drooling at others!! I am stationed in Norfolk but live in Mathews County. I am very new to all of this so if I sound like an idiot when asking questions please bear with me.
welcome. Ask away. I usually learn something each day here reading through the stuff people ask.

Welcome. Sounds like it's time for an upgrade. Check out: http://www.4x4posi-lok.com/app_jeep.html for reference. There are also shady tree ways to do it if you are interested. Of course you can also fix the vacuum lines that are there.
Welcome.
Not to chase you away to another site but there is a really good site just for 4 cyl Jeeps. http://4bangerjp.com/forums/index.php
Your other option to fix the front axle is to swap in TJ shafts and do away with your 2 piece axle shaft all together. It is a little more involved but also makes your axle stronger.

That was one of the first mods I made to my Jeep was to ditch the vacuum on the front axle. I went to a posi-loc unit which is cable operated. They are kind of pricey but are really well built units.

Welcome. Enjoy the site and ask away. These guy's are pretty good at getting the right answers. My son was at Norfolk, he was on the U.S.S. Mount Whitney. Or as it was nicknamed, "Building 20" It seldom went out.
