 Thought since there wasn't a current Colorado Springs group, why not?

All are welcome of course, just shoot me an email and we can set up a meeting area(s).

Since I just got my JK, I am pretty much at stock right now, but would love to meet some people around town to go exploring as much as possible.

Email address is GICOSJeep@aol.com - please make sure to post in the subject line of CoS GI Jeepers or something to that effect so I dont delete it as spam.

Hope to see some of you guys soon.

That sounds like an awesome idea. I know I am really eager to start hooking up with people out here in Colo Springs and this was the best forum for military folks I found.

Now for me, its a matter of getting those folks together and helping to jumpstart a program out here because as I mentioned earlier, there isn't one currently. A few civilian ones of course, but, I think we can all agree, that once you have been military 1 year or 30 years, those are the folks you connect with.

And as you said, what a great way to find out about a place you're moving to.

This is all fairly new to me as far as jumpstarting a local club, so if anyone has ideas or anything like that, I'll take whatever I can. You can either post it here or again, shoot me an email at the address in the first post.

The biggest thing I can suggest is to get the word out there. For every ONE person that I've gotten to come over here, I've had five or six not register. It's the nature of the beast I guess. There's nothing I won't do to make sure that someone knows about this site. I've already got four decals on the heep and getting ready to add a fifth, not to mention the calling cards miljeep can pdf and send you.

As with the first part, that was why this was started. One way to connect with one another. Make sure that you utilize your sig lines to start your localized area on this board. That way when people Google Colorado area Jeeps, yours might pop up. Then, if they're military, you might have a bite.

Here is alot of good useful info for starting clubs and the like I know its from the east coast but there is alot of general info there too. http://www.ec4wda.org/ I will work with you as much as I can from here till I get out there but there wont be too much that I can get done till I get there. So if there is anything you need help with or think I may be able to get done from here let me know. I will be out there in July.

04-04-2008, 21:42
Well, you have a good base to work off of right here. People are moving from base to base and as more people find out about MJ, more people may go to your area already knowing about your future club because they have been reading these pages.

I'll be swinging through CO on April 12th. Actually staying in either Denver or Georgetown for the night.

Since this trip (going to Moab) will become either annual or every 2 years, it would be cool to hook up with you guys some time, and wheel your area!

We'll be in Moab from the 13th through the 18th. HB

i will be back this summer and am always looking for people to wheel with.

Sorry I missed the posts, new baby and wife have been keeping me busy. I will finally be in CO Springs on the 21st and my jeep will be there sometime in may. I am all for getting something rocking. I have some idea's too, but I will have to see what happens when I get done inprocessing to see what my OP Tempo is. Is there a M&G planned yet?

Chewie422
04-07-2008, 09:46
Sorry for not getting back on earlier, my computer at home is down.

Anyways...so far, nothing has been planned or anything. First, I wanted to see how much, if any, interest there would be and it seems like there certainly is which is awesome.

Secondly, thanks for the site ArmyFSJ. I'll get on their today and see what its about and keep working this. And as you guys go TDY out to CO, definetley let me know and we can get together on the weekends maybe. And for all the guys that are about to PCS out, especially keep me up to date...

As for now, I am not slated to deploy anytime soon; however, my summer will be fairly busy with instructor duty at USAFA for a cadet program. Other than that, I will be around as far as know.

More to come, thanks guys.

trailsnail
04-07-2008, 09:57
I'll be around and will touch base with you when I get there. I think with all the military in CO Springs, there should be a relative interest for Jeepers there.

Chewie422
04-07-2008, 13:10
I think so too, it's just a matter of getting the word out there and maybe even posting signs on base or something.

Hitechredneck
04-07-2008, 15:49
Best bet to post things is at the hobby shops. Also another good forum to put the word on the street is www.colorado4x4.org there are tons of military guys on there. I would get on there but my connection over here in the sandbox is really slow on that site. But go and check it out they have meet and greats all the time. used to be every sat at the 4 wheel parts dont know about now. but it is a great place to get this out there. hope that helps looking forward to being back in the real world soon.

Chewie422
04-08-2008, 18:14
Well, its a start...I stood up a myspace page for this club to see if that will attract anyone. It's just a test thing right now, but I figured since so many people have myspace these days its a good way to reach out.

Need to make some changes and add things to the page, but as I said, its a start.

The background's the best I could find for now, but I'll keep looking....

Check it out...

trailsnail
04-14-2008, 01:07
Hey Kevin, How was the beer party? Would it be a good idea for a M&G? I know that the only reason you went was to scope it out for the rest of us right?

Chewie422
04-14-2008, 10:09
The beer fest was fun. I think everyone would have enjoyed, minus the cold and falling snow. They had of course all local breweries and a little something for everyone, to include a few live bands, and one or two things for the kids too.

Overall, it was a good time and I will keep everyone posted to the next event going on around here, state or local.

I was advised of the Highland Games coming up in September. Perhaps, if everyone is around, we could make a few days of it...http://www.scotfest.com/

I'll poke around, look for some trips, events, and anything else going on and keep everyone posted...

Enjoy,

Kevin

04-14-2008, 10:25
As for the meet and greet, that sounds like a great idea. I know we can certainly set something up soon, so long as everyone or almost everyone can make it.

I will be out of pocket from 5-16 May though as I will be heading to Ft. Leonard Wood for those two weeks. Pretty much after that I am around though.

Chewie422
04-14-2008, 18:02
I need a drawer...can someone Jeep this attachment up for me somehow? I am only so good, lol...

If anyone has any ideas on design changes/additions/deletions or just keep it the same, I'm interested to hear what you got.

Thanks guys,

Kevin

You have to be careful of a few things with the above design. The use of DoD graphics needs to be approved. Here is the text from the DoD site concerning the graphics.

NOTICE: Department of Defense, Military Service Seals and United in Memory Emblem are protected from unauthorized use by law. However, the Military Services typically approve the use of their Service emblem or coat of arms as a substitute.

trailsnail
04-15-2008, 10:45
Thanks to Ryan ;), I have and idea that could be used. Give me a couple of days and I'll try to whip something up.

Edit: Here is something I wipped up. Since it is rectangular, it should be pretty easy to mass produce. As you can see, there is still some work that needs to be done to it, but it was a though. If people are stuck on round, let me know and I will see what I can do.

Chewie422
04-15-2008, 19:00
Hey Ryan, good call on that, I never even thought of it.

I actually sent an email to my public affairs guy today and asked him about some of rules/regs to that and hadnt heard back yet. I also asked him if he could "potentially" help in spreading the word to the other local bases too.

Just waiting to find out...thanks again Ryan.

10th Mountain Jeeper
05-08-2008, 19:55
Yep, 21rd is bad ass this time of year, all the erosion from winter and spring run off, or we can find some trails between us, I don't mind driving to get some good trails in, Billing canyon is another good trail a bit short, check out my profile and see the attached pics

trailsnail
05-12-2008, 20:51
I'm finally back around and looking to hook up. Been rough since I arrived because of classes and trying to find a crib. I should have my Jeep memorial day weekend after I bring it up from Dallas. Hope to hit some trails soon, it's time to get the rockies rocking.

Just thought I would chime in and say hey.

Irish Assassin- sorry I missed you, Brent and Ed on Sunday. I had had last minute mothers day plans dropped on me.

On a different note. I like the logo that is being designed, but as an FYI, the Colorado Jeep Club logo on Jeep Forum uses the same style with the Jeep going over the Rockies. I thought I would throw that out there.

Irish_Assassin
05-14-2008, 11:57
Its all good but you missed a hell of a time!!! You shoulda seen my ZJ tearin it up! I took most of the harder lines the wranglers did and impressed all the guys.

Sorry for the delay. I finally got around to finishing the touch ups. Anyone got any ideas for anything else that needs to be added?

Irish_Assassin
05-28-2008, 23:22
i like it! i dont think it needs changed but if i changed anything i would have the jeep going up the face of the mountail with tire marks sorta snaking behind it. but i do like it the way it is.

trailsnail
05-29-2008, 07:23
Hmm, wonder how that (tire tracks) would work with the jeep being that small? I'll give it a shot. I am going to try and find out if there is some way to get these printed. Maybe there is some place around here. Ryan pointed me in a good direction of a place that can do it and I will see about getting a quote from them.

Hitechredneck
05-29-2008, 14:27
I would change the color to just a all black or single color outline. Cause i know my jeep would look funny with all that color. Plus it would make the stickers MUCH cheaper. Go talk to dave over at the sign shop on platte have him look at it and work something out with them. it right off platte and academy.

Hitechredneck
05-29-2008, 14:28

Just a suggestion, but you may want to start a new thread for a meet and greet just incase someone new joins up that has not been tracking this post for a while. I know it also helps to pass on information should something change since they know they can quickly go to one post and see what is going on.

How's everyone doing? Been away for a while and see there has been some M&G going on? Have a good turn out? Well, maybe we can do another one if anyone's interested...since I have been out of it for a while.

Also, went up to Tincup, CO this past weekend and camped out on Mirror Lake. Awesome views...anyways, lots of good runs up there, ie Tincup Pass/St Elmo and another which is escaping me at the moment. I did both stock JK and no issues, just took it slow. Lots of fun if anyone ever heads up that way (40 mi. outside Gunnison).

Let me know if there wants to be a m&g, talk to you guys later. Nice to be back on...

I'll have to dig up my trail pics from the weekend and put them up...we had some crazy weather though, sunny, windy, rain, hail and repeat for two days.

Like was said, it is long, but equally as beautiful...especially as you hit Mirror Lake.

Alrighty, I have updated the myspace page, kind of and also finally, with some pics. Could use some help from the local MJ community. What to add, what to take away, etc...

I know the background needs to go, but if you guys want me to add anything, change or whatever else, I am open to whatever. Talk to all soon, enjoy and be good!

Nice pics of the pass, looked like really beautiful country. I wish that I could get my wife to go camping.

Whaaa?? Who doesn't like camping, its the most simplest of things to do...

Grab sleeping bag, bring food (or kill it), bring shelter, find/burn wood, relax...and dont forget the beer.

Simple!

I know my wife is dying to take the kids camping. We just have to wait till next year so our youngest will be a little more bearable for something like that. The pics look great. Hell I may have to just drive out there and check out the site so I can start planning a trip for next year. I love camping in new spots.

My wife has a problem with things like bugs, cold, wet, etc. If we get a camper then I think that she will go, you know something off of the ground, but that to me isn't camping.

Was up in the area last weekend. Leaves were just starting to change so by now they should be awesome. BTW fishing at the lakes up there is great. Hunting is also just as good. When the weather brings snow watch out for the guys on quads and snow mobils.
