To all,
I am a new member and just recently purchased a long awaited '82 CJ8 Scrambler. It's in good shape but there is a lot I want to do to it. It has the 4 cyl right now and is pretty much stock throughout. I plan to use it for a daily driver in good weather, camping, and hunting so I don't need it to be a gigantic rock crawler (not that there is anything wrong with that). I want to beef up the tires as much as possible with the least amount of lift as possible. The stock tires are currently 235/75R15s which is roughly 29". Can i go to 32"s without lifting it? If not, how much lift do I need? Your help is greatly appreciated.

P.S.

Welcome. Get with Truck and some of the others that are part of the SOA. They will be able to provide a lot of insight and information about the Scrambler.

Nice rig, I wish I had one. Now we just need some photos :)

Yeah, Truck would be the reigning authority here on CJ-8 as far as I know.

I think Scott Anderson is another from the SOA side of the house.

Semper,

Welcome. Yes you can run 32s without lifting but they will rub. When I get home I will post a couple of pix with mine on 32s w/no lift. I suggest a 2.5in at a minimum. you could also trim the fenders and us TJ flares to give you the room you need with no lift. All this said, if it were I, I would get the RE 4.5in lift (most complete kit out there) and run 33s. It is a good size and runs good on the street and trail without being hardcore.

Check your axles as well you might have been lucky enough to get 4.10 gears.

Finally, do you know what transmission you have? If standard you probably have a T176 (4spd w/ a long straight shifter). The engine is a GM 151, which means it has a GM bellhousing making this the perfect candidate for a GM motor (V6 or V8) transplant if you need or want one.

Sorry this is the only pix I can find of it with 32s. As you can see they fill the wheel wells up pretty good. This is with no lift.
