I understand it's a Jeep and it's going to make weird noises...however, this just recently started. I added the 2"BB and 32's last week. I drove around for a few days before putting the tires on. I had a little DW issue, but that went away and hasn't happened since (I did change the steering stabilizer). When I move from park to either drive or reverse, I get this loud clunk noise...not sure how else to describe it...but only for a second. It only happens when I first start moving. Any idea what this is?

I ran a 2 inch BB for about a year before moving to larger tires. about a year after the BB install, I added a 1.25 inch body lift and a 1 inch motor mount lift along with 33's. A month or so after that, I upped the lift to a 4.5 RE.

I did not have any issues with the shifting during that short time when I had the BB and the 33's on together. I only had a clunking noise when I was on an incline and shifting out of park.

I will dig around and see if I can find anything.

I may have missed it, but do you have a standard or automatic?

This is probably one those things that needs to be seen in person. There's all kinds of clunks a transmission can make, especially an auto. Just out of curiosity, hen was the last time you had the tranny fluid changed?

Just got the Jeep a couple of weeks ago. The guy said that all fluids had just been replaced. The noise started immediately after putting new tires on...

but it's not such a significant difference to offset anything on there now. That's where the ? comes from on my end. Where in DC do you live/work?

I'm usually around the Pentagon/Fort Myer/Georgetown area. I'm bringing it in this week for an alignment (Manassas)...hopefully they can tell me something!

sounds like the linkage is off, i get a horriffic clunk when the tranny is under load(incline) going from park to reverse, i think its a side effect of hte t-case lowering brackets. and the increased load from the larger tires.

if it shifts fine, and dosent go haywire on the shifts, i think its fine

Next time you park the jeep, put the e-brake on before you put it in park. Then when you try to go again, Brake, shift and see if it makes the same noise. Just a thought.

me too... mine has done that since day one off the lot. Just learned to use the e-brake when I park on a hill.

Update: The upper control arm was not tight enough! No more clunking!!! Thanks for the help!
