Those pictures are beautiful. Looks like a really nice place to take a family. Are the roads jeep necessary, or can an SUV do it?
The only questionable part would be the descent into the punch bowl (narrow shelf road on granite) and the climb up Hancock. There are some loose rocks there that might lead to scraping.
You could probalby take a modern SUV in from the Marble side and make it to the punch bowl with no problem. Going up, I'd recommend a shot wheelbase vehicle.
This is some of he most beautiful country in all of CO. Lead King basin, is even better.

Yeah, I love the Elk Mountains and also the San Juans. Colorado jeeping at it's finest. Makes me want to go back but I won't have any vacation time until next summer. Thanks for the pics. I'll be up in the Sawatch range next weekend.
I will be camping with the Cub Scouts next weekend but the week after that, I want to drive Mosquito Pass.

...but the week after that, I want to drive Mosquito Pass.
I've been wanting to do this for about 3 years now but couldn't due to either Iraq or NTC. I have a chance to do this next weekend. It also happens to be Boom Days in Leadville, too. The pass usually doesn't open until August. Larry Heck from Four Wheel Drive and Sport Utility magazine did an article this month on Mosquito Pass. Here it is:

I don't think they close the pass for the donkeys, you'd just have to slow down. According to bushducks, the pass is clear.

I'd be up for Mosquito Pass in a couple of weeks... Are you planning just a day trip or stay in BV or the like? Weston Pass makes a good return back over the mountains to hwy 285 if you're wanting to go back to the springs that day.

I'll be camping in San Isabel National Forest along Clear Creek. I plan on going up the pass from the Leadville side and then back down the same. I may venture a little bit down the east side, but only down to the London mine.

I've never seen them bite anyone but I bet if you tried to catch one, that'd change.
