If Im not mistaking youa re talking about the ARB snorkel... It all depends were you plann to DD/wheel... In a very dusty area I will recommend the pre filter (basically separates most of the large particulates before it hits the air filter) but for must of us the air ram is good enough...

I added a snorkle in 2006 on my '02 Wrangler and ran it for 2 1/2 years in COS and noticed my air filter stayed much cleaner.

I have the straight ARB snorkel that runs into the factory air box and uses either the OEM filter or any aftermarket filter K&N, Green, etc. I do not use a pre-filter and have the top scoop (ram) facing forward. You can turn the scoop to the rear which I am told will help keep the filter even cleaner and keep bugs and other large debri from getting sucked in. I can also tell you that up here in Washington I have taken on several trees with my ARB snorkle and it has always popped back into place and shape where I saw less expensive brand break in half on the same tree.

Eh... if it 's dusty, turn the ram around.
I've had the arb snorkel since I bought the jeep about a year and a half ago. I haven't noticed any more dust or debris in my filter box with the snorkel than I had on the last jeep with no snorkel.

If you're not doing a lot of hood deep water crossings though, I'd advise to spend the money else where. My snorkel's seen better days... it's been ripped off twice now from a tree and a rock.

Well right now I have a 1988 Wrangler YJ with the 4.2 inline 6cylinder engine. I have a 3 inch body lift and 33x12.50R15 Interco Thornbird tires. When I get home from Iraq I plan to buy a '07-'09 four door Wrangler though.
