    Default Vehicle Storage

OK, I got my orders to deploy for a year to Kuwait, leave early next year.

Now for storing my Jeep, any tips that you guys have for me, I am getting ready to buy new tires for it and more the likely will put it into a storage unit on blocks for the time I am gone.

Here is just a sugjestion and some may think its way too much but you do live in a very humid area. If you look around in magazines there are some storage systems (bags) that you can get with decicant pouches. You can set it up in a storage unit back your jeep into it set it up the way you want it to sit put the decicant bags in and seal it up. I think this would be good considering you wont be around to keep it clean and do corrosion prevention for a while. It will also your interior from getting moldy.

And yes I've known a few people that have used them with great successs. I'm in the Desert and the wif drives my vehicles when I'm not around so dont really worry about corrosion. I worry more about who, what, where, and when she's gonna hit.

Bring it to me. I will make sure it gets taken good care of.

    Stay safe over there.
I'm Mike, make sure you spell it right, because I do not want to get the wrong A$$hole in trouble.

If you do not have time to do it right the first time, how do you have time do do it over?

Do you have anyone you could leave it with that would start it up and drive it around the block on occasion?
I always made the drive home to my parents house and left it with them during deployments.
As for the new tires, I'd probably hold off on them until you came back unless you absolutely need them now.

no don't really trust anyone here with my jeep for a year, my parents are in NV so that is to far.

If I put it into a climate controlled storage unit on blocks so no weight on tires or shocks they should be good for the timeframe?

Drain fluids or leave with fresh stuff in there?

I would leave the fluids. They make additives to add to your gas tank for storing for long periods of time. Just be prepared to change them out when you get back.

I just put my TJ in the storage last month. I got some free stock rollers to set it on, kept the 33s in the garage. Disco'd the battery, and added stabil (fuel stabilizer). I use an air drier that I got at wally world to put on the back seat. I don't forsee any problems.

You don't really need to disconnect the battery, you can get a "Battery Tender" and it will keep the battery at full charge. I have one for the bike and it keeps it nice & charged all winter long. A friend went to Iraq and left his Jeep on jack stands with tires off the ground, Stabil in the tank (topped off) all fresh fluids including brake fluid and his CJ7 was good to go when he returned. Fired up on second try, he ran it for about an hour then changed all fluids, no problems at all after that.
one thing to remember -- when you park it DO NOT set your emergency brake. It may rust the cable in the housing and if that happens it can be a royal pain to loosen that brake after the fact.

    I don't get it.

I would also recommend holding off with the tires. But you know better than me how badly you need them, what kind of deal you are getting. When I left, I put the heep on jack stands and left the wheels tires attached. The only thing I wish I would have done was pay more attention to the fuids, etc. It was such a rush for me to get out the door that I didn't even have time to put the top on.
