    Exclamation Interior lights stuck on?

    Hey everyone,
I am having an issue with all of my interior lights being stuck on. I checked all of the switches on the doors for when they are closed, and it seems to be ok. I don't have the switch on where the headlights are, haha. I was thinking maybe because of the rear hatch it is not going off, but I do not know where the switch is for that. Anyone else have this problem and fix it? Only way I was able to get it to go off was pull a fuse out but now I have no power locks or guages.

From his other post, it appears to be a '99 XJ.

probably a bad door switch on one of the doors or tail gate then. I would probably go to each door switch and take them out until i found the one that was bad.

Yea, I am sorry. I have a 1999 XJ. I didn't take them out, but I went around and fiddled with all 4 of the door switches. When I press them in by hand, the lights dim just a little. That goes for all 4 doors. I have no idea where the switch is on the rear hatch though. My handle is all jacked up as well and does not open the door all the time. Gunna rip it apart and check it out today and hopefully I can find it.

Today I went around and took out all of the door switches, and removed the rear hatch cover. I can not find the switch for the rear hatch! I am 100% sure that is the problem now.

did a quick search on the internet and found that the dome light switch on an xj is intigrated into the latch mechanism.

Thanks. I did a Google search myself and that did not come up. I must have not types the correct wording. If I get a chance today I will fully pull apart the rear hatch latch assembly and see what I can do. This is such a silly problem!

The rear light also has a switch in it, just push up on the lens, and you should hear it 'click'. (the lens is the lever that activates the switch)

If this is pushed 'ON', all the dome lights stay on (at least in my '99XJ)

My switch burned out, and it stuck on, thats how I found out

Check that before tearing the hatch apart.

btw: what happened to the switch on the headlight knob?

I already had the rear hatch taken apart, and I took the latch part out and looked it over. All seemed good on it, but I did not see the switch in it.

I did know about the rear light having a switch. I pupped the clear part off for it and made sure that the switch on there was getting pressed all the way. It clicked fine and I did not notice anything that looked burned out. It still did not change the lights being on or off.

The headlight knob switch was off during all of this.

How did you know the switch in the rear dome light was burnt out? Was it obvious or did you replace it? I ended up just taking all the interior light bulbs out of the sockets so that I can still have gauges and a radio. It sucks though! These little problems are always a pain in the ass.
