I would assume you have a YJ with a carburator (spelling??)

if so, you need to get the air fuel misture adjusted. there are two screws that do that. Dont ask me how to do it cuz i suck at that and would have no clue as how to explain it.

if its fuel injected, I have no clue at all.

ok im no expert but i know that when cars run super rich, it's what it sounds like. it's running in excess (thats how you get flames out your exhaust) and when you're running lean it's like choking the vehicle. neither is good. if it's rich, lean it out. if it's lean, richen it. i've done this myself with a laptop in my DSM- but that was a rice car with a hookup to the car's computer. the way to do it with a jeep would be just to take it in for a tuneup and they get readings on their computers while driving it and tune it so you run at peak. hope i helped

IF is carburated....turn the mixture screws all the way in and then back them off 2 1/2 turn. That will give you a tunning start.
However if is fuel injected, You want to make sure your sensors are working
correctly IE colant temp sensor, exaust oxigen sensor etc etc.
If they are not working the engine will run on "open loop".
Every time you crank you engine in the morning or when is cold, I'll run
open-loop(Rich) the computer waits for signals from Coolant Tep Sensor
and Exhaust Oxigen Sensor then leans out.
If the color on the exaust tip is black or black smoke.....Engine running rich.
If is blue smoke......Your burning oil.
If is white mist ......ist water in your cilynders.

ok, 95 wrangler either 2.5 or 4.0 are fuel injected. the computer does nto have any aftermarcket support for the 2.5, but ahs a few aftermarcket tuners for the 4.0. I know from experience that the 2.5 runs rich on a factory tune, so i dont belive there is to much youcan do at this point. Checking normal stuff that the computer uses to determine its programming would be my only guess. What i mean by that are the various sensors it uses, MAP, O2, etc.... also the cat converter coudl be an issue
