    Default Finally!

So here I am, way up north, away from any active duty bases.

But tomorrow, I get to trail ride with some fellow MILITARY JEEPERS!!!

One of our local clubs, the Lake Area Wheelers, are hosting thier first annual 'Paul Bunyan Run', and I'll be joining them tomorrow for some wheeling

Dirtwarrior97 and MetViper from here, have been wheeling for 2 days alraedy I couldn't swing the entire 6 day wheeling trip, but I'll be joining them for at least tomorrow!

Maybe now I can finally test out that recovery gear!

Pics and stories to come after wheeling

Even the worst day of wheeling is better than the greatest day at work. I hope you come back with plenty of stories.

Well, it was a bad day wheeling Not even 10 minutes into the day, on the first trail, I snapped the left rear axle shaft!

Never did see the L.A.W. guys and MetViper and DirtWarrior97

I was about 200' into the trail U.A. Alley (Ultimate Adventure Alley, named by one of the guys doing the Midwest U.A. run a few years ago, it's on one of thier U.A. DVDs)

I thought I lost the rear drive shaft, and figured no big deal, as I carry a spare, and extra U-joints.

But once I winched up and out of the rocks, I realized it was either the locker, or an axle shaft. (later I dropped the diff cover, and confirmed it was the axle shaft)

I scouted the rest of the trail, and knew I wasn't going through it that way!

So I used the winch, 95' of the 100' line, to lower the Jeep backwards down the hill, and onto somewhat level ground.

My dad made the 1 hour trip up with the trailer, and we got the CJ back home.

My 7 year old son John, was my Navigator/Spotter/Camera guy, and took some pics. (It was just him and I, and I was busy getting us out of there!)

My little Navigator and wheelin buddy:

Quite the bummer, as it was a beautiful day out!!

Never did meet up with the guys, they must have been running late.

Bummer, but glad you are already putting that winchline to use and got it home!

Lowered the Jeep backwards, takes a good bit of skill to not burn up the brake on an electric winch or damage the rope. Good job

Time for an axle upgrade or moly shafts?

They were upgraded! It was a Superior Alloy 1 piece shaft.

Won't be pulling it apart until next week or so (the 2A frame is in the shop)

I have a D44 from a ScoutII I'll probably throw under it for now, then figure out whether to fix the Mod 20, upgrade to an EB 9", or leave the D44 under there

I'll have all winter, as I don't drive the CJ once they start slingin' salt on the roads

The winch line is awsome!! Don't need gloves, less fear of it breking and whipping (it has a 21,000 lb rating!) And the 'scuff guard' that came with it came in handy! The rocks are sharp up there, and becuase of the angle of the hill, the line was resting on a sharp one!

Sorry you broke your Jeep!! We were on Gumby's Rocks a little later in the day when one of the other LAW guys destroyed his transfer case. Two of the guys who work there stopped by and they told us you had busted an axle and already went home..

I'm sure we'll get to wheel again sometime in the future!

BTW. Dirtwarrior and I just got back to my house after wheeling from Wednesday through this morning. Pics to follow!!!

Yeah, I talked to Phil and Scotty at the park, while waiting for my dad to come up with the trailer.

Bummed I missed you guys. I had stuff to do at the cabin, otherwise I would have come back up in the XJ and wheeled with you guys on Friday.

One of these days we'll get together!

So who dumped thier T-case? Can't wait for the pics!

Hate to hear that! What were you doing when it snapped?
