Default take cover, I have an idea!

I am trying to figure out how I should go about putting this bull bar on. Either way i do it there is going to be a lot of cutting involved. It is designed for an XJ bumper but I am going to put it on my TJ anyway.

First way would be to chop the ends off of the stock bumper, making it a stubby, cutting the mounts off of the bar and make new mounts.

The other way wold be to leave the stock bumper off and weld the bar to the frame ends where the stock bumper mounts(pics below).

The third but least likely option would be to just do a stubby and leave the bar off.

    What do you guys think?

Is it gonna limit your abilities to mount a winch down the line? Don't do anything you can't turn back from.

Remove your stock bumper, weld this onto your stock bumper, make some braces to strenthen it where it mounts, cut your bumper to the desired look, remount.

This will allow you to remove the factory bumper and go another route if you get a winch

Thanks Fred, I think this will be the avenue of approach.

Next step is to find someone in the SoCal area that can show me how to weld. ANY TAKERS???

Thats what I am thinking but I want to learn in the process. Maybe practice on some scrap first then do it myself. I really don't care how it looks, just don't want it falling off!

stubby, depending on state to state, the brush guard wont count as a bumper. plus that tj looks lots better stubby, especially compared to my jk plastic stubby bumpers. fyi no one stub a jk, and think filling it in with expansion foam, then sand and paint, and expect it to look good at all. one more trip crawling and i wont have a rear bumper to worry about tho.
