Bro...if you think you have no power now...wait until you throw the switch and turn A/C on it. Spend the 1k for an engine swap that has A/C and raid the rest of the stuff out of a salvage yard. You will be much happier.

You can get a decent 4.0 w/ ac for half that price.
Throwing money at a 2.5l is kind of like throwing money at a D35.....

I could almost understand it if you lived down south. I think I ran ac up here maybe 4-5 days this summer.

I cant wait until my a/c goes and I can switch over to OBA. I ran it maybe twice this summer. Not worth it.

I agree with what the others said.

In the 5 years I have owned the Wrangler, I used the factory A/C only a handful of times in N.C. , and thats because the wife and kids were whining that it was too hot. I run it for a few minutes each summer to keep the system up - but otherwise I never use it.

I almost converted it over to OBA, but with only around 5,000 05 Rubicon Unlimiteds made I just cannot make myself commit to major changes like tearing out the A/C or long arm suspensions. Just crazy that way I guess.

The Wrangler already gets 12 MPG. With the A/C on its about 8!

I would install aftermarket A/C only on a hardtop only, stock, mall crawler that never left the road. Otherwise, that money will go a long way twards other more useful mods.

    I bought a 6cyl Parts YJ for $800.
Used what I wanted out of it, and sold off the rest.

Use the money a little more wisely than just upgrading for AC.

Okay so I will buck the tide here. I bought my '02 TJ with out air becuase it was a soft top and what to I need air for living in New England...well sitting in stop and go traffic I wished I had air, on hot humid summer days when it is raining aand you can't keep the windows from fogging up, I wish I had air and after my first trip to Moab and I was crawling over rocks in 113 degrees I was begging for air...so while I was in Iraq in 2006 my Brother-In-Law installed this exact same system in my TJ and I am fairly happy with it. I will tell you that you that my B-I-L said it was not quite the direct bolt in they claimed and has worked at a Jeep dealership for 20 years. You will lose some of the functions on your vent controls as you will have Off, Max Air upper vents only, regular air bi-level, no air floor only, floor and defrost and defrost only, so if you think you want to run just the dash vents with no A/C you can't. Last summer the high pressure switched failed and the company could not supply me any repair parts so I had to pay an A/C shop to rig a new switch into the system, which now works better than it ever did, but I was disapointed that they could support their product after the sale. One other note, I have the 4.0L six and I really don't notice any change in performance running the air conditioning other than it allows me to keep the top up on long trips if I want to and get better mpg that running with the windows off or the top down.

Heck, my entire Jeep Comanche in good shape cost me $900 and I drove it around and to work for a month before I spent another cent on it.

Based on SGM O's post I bet you could pull a stock system from the same year Jeep in a JY that works as well or better for less than $1,000.
