Thumbs down Tellico is done with

SFWDA participated in a conference call today with the USFS and learned that they intend on permanently closing the Upper Tellico OHV System.

The decision will be posted on the North Carolina USFS website soon (http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/). When it is posted, there will be some detail from the agency about the decision, how it was reached, and what we can do to protest.

My understanding is that there will be a 45 day appeal period, followed by a 45 day period for USFS review. Once that review is complete, the decision will either be upheld or overturned. If upheld, we go into the courts.

SFWDA, BRC and United will have a news release out ASAP detailing our reactions to the decision and our next steps. We will also be asking for everyone to help us with the appeal and to step up the communications to the USFS about the decision (more letter writing, calling elected officials, peaceful protests, etc.).

Sorry this isn't a lot of information, but I haven't seen the documents yet. When I do, I'll post up more about what we need to do.

This is completely due to two things:

The Trout Unlimited lawsuit and the Democrats in control of the Executive Branch of Government which includes the Forrest Service. The Enviro Nazis have been trying to close Tellico forever and the Dems have just accomidated them.

Get out and vote in the upcoming and mid term elections! Start contacting your elected representitives and tell them you will vote them out if there are any more closures!

We are being locked out of our heritage, Katemcy rocks was just closed as well. Moab is in danger.

Katemcy had more to do with the owners son inheriting the land and not wanting to renew the lease. They have managed to find a new patch of land to lease and Katemcy will reopen sometime this spring.

OK. I dont know all the details of each closure. Paragon in PA was closed because the owners would not renew the lease to the park. They could get more money by selling the land to an investor who wants to build a cargo airport.

I do know that unless 4wd owners stop just complaining - and start fighting this by contacting elected officials, voting against those who support land closures, joining organizations like United Four Wheel Drive Assoc, Blue Ribbon Coalition, and Tread Lightly (And supporting them with money)

THERE WILL BE NO PLACE LEFT TO WHEEL.

Agreed. Unless we get as noisy as the liberals about protecting our freedoms, they will be lost. Rural america is dying because its more concerned with the results of the footbal game than working to protect what it hold dear. Liberals and enviornmentalists achieve goals and lock us out BECAUSE WE LET THEM.

The only reason we have any ability to own guns at all is BECAUSE THE NRA FIGHTS FOR THEM. The NRA rallies its members, who communicate with elected officials thier disagreement with gun control. The Dems have not forgotten how they lost control of bolth houses in 1994, in good measure because of discontent with gun control and political activism of the NRA. If we want to stop land closure, we must get active and fight it. We must educate others who own and wheel 4WD vehicles and get them to fight as well.

    All good points here.

We all fight for the freedoms of every American, and we also have the right to use our public land in a responsible manner.
Those of us the recreate, usually do it in a responisble manner, as we are more of the preservationist, and want the land used and managed in a responsible manner.

Recreation is the new way for the forest service to make money from the forests, where years ago, it was timber sales. Well, timber sales are way off now as it is not environmentally friendly to sell the timber anymore.
Recreation is their new way to make money, but the conservationinst (read anti-recreation) people have been louder then us and sued to close OUR forests to motorized recreation.

We have to unite, and unite big to fight this.
Tellico is just the tip of the ice berg. Moab is in their sights, along with the Rubicon and any other big name trail out there that we all love.

Join UFWDA, BRC to help put money in the bank to pay the lawyers to fight for Tellico.

I will keep you all informed with info about the fight, and what we need from the recreating public.
