Did you run the battery dead in your jeep?
i was pulling my wire off of my winch to clean it cause of the mud that has been on there sense fort hood. i got about half way threw and started to use the remote to get the rest of the wire off the drum. as i was duing this the winch started to die. it sounded like the motor was slowly running out of power till it just died. the lights onthe remote still lit up but the winch would not work. so had to take the winch off cause i had all but a few feet of the wire off the drum. i emailed smittybilt and will call them tomorrow. the winch is only 5-6 months old so they should cover it with the warrenty but just in case they dont im up for some ideas to fix it.
thanks

i had the jeep running. i got ahold of smittybilt and the guy said "Powering out is only to be used when releasing load tension. The Winch has a
one way brake system, and will engaged and work against the pull out,
thus burning out the motor or the solenoid. This is why you need to pull the
entire cable out manually... you were almost there...Hopefully its just the
solenoid."
the funny thing is that in the operators mannual it says " it is highly recommended that the winch be used regularly (once a month) that simply power the cable out 15m, free spool 5m and then power back in."
so they need to get their sh!t straight. they r send ing me a new solenoid to see if that will fix it

Well I think you should probably just be thankful that they're actually holdin up their end of customer service and sending you out some new parts. Misprints happen all the time. Just check out the "attention yj owners" thread![]()

Did you try to wind it back up under power after everything cooled down?

I would check to see if it works after cooling down. If it does then just keep the other solenoid as a spare.
