    Question Re-Gearing?

I was kicking around the idea of up-grading to 35s the next time I buy tires, as I am running 33s now. I am not worried about wether or not they will fit, but would I need to get my 04' Rubicon re-geared, or is the stock 4 10 good enough?

Had a friend who went to 35s on his Rubi with the stock 4.10s, he ended up going back to 33s as the power loss was to much for him. His main complaint was on the hiway with a headwind, could barely manage 55.

I would look at least 4.56 or better, depending on your driving stle and needs.

I'm running 4.56 in my TJ on 32s.

personally, when your talking 35's on a jeep, you have lost any chance of fuel economy, so i would drop into the 488/538 arena myself, im runnign 589's with 37 and very happy, sure it revs a little bit at highway speeds, but hwo fast do you really wnat to go in a jeep? great low end torque that way.

What are the highest set of gears you can go with a rubi locker/carrier? Does it have to be changed or are teh 4.10's at the bottom end?

Do you have an auto or manual?
If auto, go 5.13 and if manual go 4.88. I'm sure you could get by fine w/o them for a little while, but I would definitely plan on re-gearing. You might want to think about upgrading the brakes as well.

Isnt it just the opposite. The 4:10's with the auto because the auto has the convertor to multiply the torque off the line and an OD at .78:1 for the final gear. Where as the manual in first gear needs the 5.13's to get moving easier and also has the OD in fifth gear.
    What am I missing here?

    Rubicons come stock with 4:10.
Everyone that's got an auto on ROF that went 4.88s has wished they went with 5.13s. The guys with manuals seem pretty happy with the 4.88s though.

Its a manual. What about 4.56, or would I definitely need the 4.88?
