What kind of jeep are you putting it in?
Edit: If you're going to go through the work of adapting a new tcase, I'd try to find a Dana 300. Easy to get 4:1 and twin stick.
Okay, ran the search and still can't find wht I am looking for. Short version of events: I am going to be doing a trans soon and would like to swap out transfer cases. I have a 249 which sucks. I want to put a 231 in, but I don't know which one is the strongest. I figure whichever one I get I'm going to have to swap the input gear, just curious which one is the strongest. Any suggestions?

Since he has the 249, it's most likely a ZJ (or an XJ?)
Depending on the year of your drivetrain, it may be a direct swap.
If no one here has an answer, check out NAXJA, http://www.naxja.org/
Search there, and I guarantee you'll find the info for the swap.
To replace a 249 w/the D300, would require not only an adapter, but a flip kit, becuase they are opposite drop T cases.
Most of the 249 to 231 swaps only require the input to be swapped, or will bolt in, depending on the years.

I should've mentioned the flip kit. Good pick-up, Randy.
Sorry, forgot to add that in there. It's a 95 ZJ with a 5.2 and the 46RH. I wouldn't mind the D300, never knew they were passenger drop. That would actually make my axle swap easier down the road. I don't really need 4:1, it's mostly a daily driver with a little play time added in when I can. I am just sick of chirping tires and wasting gas/parts with the 249.
If you're gonna go 231 why not just bump up to a 241, already seen them in junkyards under the rubi's.

Who needs big tires when you have these lockers, and a 4:1?
My only problem is that I have 2 projects going on right now and would like to find out if it bolts up. Jeep.com won't send me any info and I don't have much time to hit the pap's up here. Anyone know if it will bolt up?
