    USAF Temp quest

Hola people got another issue see if you guys can help.
If you remember I bought my XJ after the previours owner blew the head gasket. I rebuilt the engine and got it running until I went to tow the boat and seriously overheated it to the point where the block cracked. I took the radiator apart and found all kinds of junk in it I mean clumps of crap. To make a long story short I replaced the engine with a '96 with about 90,000 miles on it and it runs great, I also replaced the radiator, fan clutch and added another electric fan for a total of 3 fans. The temp light is still comming on and starts as a low glow until I turn the heat on. It only does it in city traffic not on the high way. I even drove it from Las Vegas NV to Ogden UT which is about 450 or 500 miles with out any issues. Anyone have any Ideas on what to do?

do your have a good radiator shroud? are the fans blocking the air flow, is the radiator mounted with a gap so that air will flow around the radiator instead of thru it?

have you checked the coolant temp with a thermometer? your gauge or sender unit could be wrong/bad

When you replaced all those parts due to it being clogged, did you flush the heater core? could there have been a ton more up in the heater which is now in your new radiator?

did you replace or reuse the hoses? one of your hoses could be collapsing and partially blocking the coolant flow?

Where did you mount the additional electric fan? If you mounted it on the front of the radiator as a pusher it could be hindering the air flow. Also is it pushing the air into the rad and not trying to pull the air out? I've made the mistake of picking up the wrong fan and ened up with my fans working against each other. Did you replace the t-stat? I would also suggest putting in a temp gauge instead of using the lights. This way you can get a better idea of what the temp is.

Shroud is good. New T-Stat. Have the gage routed but cant get the plug out of the block to install it. The water outlet is to shallow and the sensor bottoms out before the threads even get close. I have a spare sensor for the light so I am going to try that. Heck the one I have on is the one off the old engine all that overheating may have weakend the element. Thanks for all the input, I will keep you guys and gals posted on what I figure out.
