    '87 was the YJ's debut year, I believe they were 21 spline in the early years. No idea on when that changed to the newer 23 spline.

    I just need to figure out which spline mates to the auto before I pull my tcase as I recently picked up a 23 spline 231
    1981 CJ7- 4in lift on 33's, Twin sticked dana300, aussied D30, Custom bumpers,Herced inside. Riddler covers.

    You could always pull it and if the new one isn't right replace the input with the old one.

    im actually goin from a 207 to a 231 so not sure if that would work

    Here is some info I found that may be helpful.

    Some early YJs ('87) had the NP207 transfer case. This unit has
    a 2.61:1 ratio vs. the NP231's 2.72:1. On Jeeps with manuals
    transmissions, it came with a 21-spline input. With automatic
    trannies, it had a 23-spline input. The durability of this
    transfer case is questionable so you swap an NP231 in its place
    if it ever breaks.

    The NP231 came with a 21-spline input shaft when mated with 4-cyl
    motors or the Peugot BA10/5 transmission. It came with a 23-spline
    input shaft when mated with the Aisin AX-15 transmission or TF999
    automatic transmission. If your Jeep is '90 or later and has a 6-cyl
    motor, it will have the 23-spline input shaft NP231.

    If you want to convert a 21-spline NP231 to a 23-spline input, you can
    order the correct input shaft (part ##5300-6085) from Chrysler.

    From what I'm reading, your rig came with a 207 and auto tranny, should = 23 spline.

    So the Tcase you picked up should bolt right in.

    Sound right?
