    Default Build thread searching...

I'm contemplating just keeping the CJ stock-mild and building something stupid after. That way I could daily/semi-expo the CJ and have something that I can wheel the dog snot out of.

CJ would be 33/34's with no lift and a few more minor things. She's about done after the paint job as far as I'm concerned (motor rebuild/upgrade included).

As far as the next project, it'll be built on a budget. I will be looking for common parts with likely 9" axles. I'll be looking to build stuff like this:

    Or this:

    Thoughts?

The costliest parts will likely be the chassis and suspension. I will do junkyard for almost everything else. Will be the MJ buggy that never seemed to get off the ground last time. I'm thinking it'll take me at least 3 years to complete, as I will be paying for everything myself.

Won't be the top of the line anything on there. I'm going to attempt to track every penny spent so I can show how expensive/inexpensive it can be to wheel a quasi-fast and fun buggy. Shit, if I get stationed somewhere in the desert, it could be a lot of fun.

You said on a budget yet post pictures of probably 3 of the most expensive buggies on earth. Better start taking welding classes and buying fab stuff.

Chris, I need to go get the kid from the bus, but I'll be back, with some pics of a great budget buggy!

You're my hero HB. You and Ken have appealed to me to keep the CJ looking quasi-normal in order to pass it down one day.

Douche, they're body design ideas. I know mine won't have the same inner workings, but I wouldn't mind if it looked something like that.

Here's my buddy Smileys rig, it's built from an Izuzu redeo! Of all things!

He was towing his XJ home on a trailer, and ended up in the ditch, totalling his Izuzu Redeo, so he built a buggy!

He did a solid axle up front (D44 from a 1/2 ton chev) and left the Izuzu D44 in the rear.

He did this on a budget, as he was laid off for 10 months.

Granted, he had the Izuzu to start with, but it should be easy to find a damaged rig to start a build with, especially if a guy has time to look, and a place to store stuff.

I'm collecting parts for a truggy/buggy right now myself. So far I have a set of D44 axles, 350 SBC, and a turbo 400 w/NP205 Tcase, along with a CJ front grill/hood, and VIN plate and title
