    Default Jeep fire

You guys in Nova/DC area may have remember a vehicle fire on the beltway that shut it down the other morning.... yep, it was a jeep.

SILVER SPRING, Md. - Jonathan Page's quick thinking saved his life.
The 20-year-old North Beach man was driving his 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee on the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway Tuesday morning when he turned on the heat.
He says the heat cut off.
When the heat came back on, he said "there were flames shooting out of the vents."
"I put it in park and got the hell out of there," Page tells WTOP.
The vehicle quickly became a ball of fire.
This happened about 6:40 a.m. in the center lane between New Hampshire and Georgia Avenues.
"When we got here, it was fully involved, so we just did our job to put the fire out," says firefighter Justin Green with Station 12 in Hillandale.
Greer says Page did exactly what he should have.
"Everything in a car will burn," Greer says.
As the fire fully engulfed the vehicle, drivers drove past it on both sides until a fire crew shut down the Outer Loop.
The Outer Loop closed for about 15 minutes as firefighters put out the flames and a state highway truck dragged the vehicle to the right shoulder.
It took more than an hour for traffic to improve once the Outer Loop reopened, according to WTOP Traffic Reporter Lisa Baden.
WTOP asked what Page was thinking as all this was going on.
His answer: "I gotta find a new way to get to work."

Heard about that one on the news as well.

There was also an incident a few years ago, where a Jeeper with a JK caught fire.
Luckily he was able to put it out. The cause was an oil rag left on his engine skid plate after an oil change.
Another time, riding in a JK coming back from GWNF, we were lead Jeep and over the CB comes "is your Jeep smoking?". Pull over, engine skid is covered with leaves that had dried out from the engine heat combined with a passing driver tossing a cigarette out the window. Again luck with us as it was quickily handled before anything major.

So more common than you think.
