Default I need your advice.. v. Hemi.. Trail Pig

The money has been saved up for a while and I came across this....

    http://austin.craigslist.org/pts/1497521297.html

what are your thoughts, besides "Do it"?

Pros and cons... To me its the one thing my big ass short bus is really missing.. An engine that handles the weight.

This is just hypothetical right now.. Im still deciding...

Im still debating on what I want to do with the JK.. I may just dump money into a complete trail pig and use the JK as my daily...

Ill admit it, its just really hard to go out and beat up a brand new 26k dollar vehicle right now, but I really want to get back on the trails.

I wouldn't do it until its all legal and done with paperwork and guarantees to pass emissions and what not.

    "Total parts list $3500.00
We can also get a 5.7L HEMI and a trans for about $3700.00
The labor to do the job is $3500.00 "

That tells me you're paying more than what you think. JK with a hemi would be awesome, but don't put yourself in a position that won't allow you to pass inspections/emissions where you get stationed.

So they are doing for $7,200 what AEV, Burnsville and the guys from MO whos name I can't remember are asking $16,000 - $19,000 to do and their packages are street legal in like 49 States? My guess is that for $3,700 you are getting a junkyard Hemi, but maybe not.

Spend that $7-8k on gears, lockers, D60's. Cause honestly unless you want to go balls to the wall mudding or desert racing you don't need a dang Hemi. I've seen plenty of 2.5L 4cyl's keeping up just fine with all the small blocks on rocks.
Just have to remember wheeling is 10% driver, 1% Rig, and 89% "Hey y'all watch this".

    I agree with Yeti!

I will say however, I've wheeled with Dan and some of the other BOR guys (Burnsville Off Road) and they do some absolutely amazing work, especially with thier hemi swaps!!

If you have the $$$, they are the way to go, when they are done, you connot tell it didn't roll off the factory line with a Hemi!

Also agree with theyeti... If you bump the power you need to beef up the drivetrain (unless you are cautious with the skinny pedal). In my opinion (I had a 4.0 for 2 years and a 2.5 for the last 2 years...) I some times wish for some more power on the highway, but in the trail I go were everyone else go....

And for an extra $500, you could buy a YJ and do it to that. That way you've still got your nice untarnished JK, and a yj that you can bash around on the rocks.
