how much did you pay? im in the market for one as well
ok so i bought a 98 cherokee on monday. its burple. regardless i have a few questions about some of the noises and things that i have noticed. for one between 59-65mph i get a slight vibration/ wobble. just wondering if it could be the usual suspects (warped brake rotor, unbalanced wheel, etc, etc). coming from nissans and drift cars i dont quite know this car inside and out mechanically like i do with some, but i will. another thing i have noticed as well is a squeaking when i go lock to lock on the steering. and some hesitation when it unwinds from a hard right or left turn. almost as if its getting stuck. either way all the features work, and its making good power, has a slight tick but nothing that concerns me. let me know if you have any ideas on something i might be overlooking as far as the shake/vibration, or the squeak and hesitation.

Blurple? I think it's called Amythis...Ametys....Amethy...yeah, Blurple. Mine is too.
Is it lifted? Or till stock? How many miles?
Wobble/shimmy is probably an unbalanced tire, seeing as it's at the same speed all the time.
Other cuases:
No SYE (slip yoke eliminator) lifted rigs only
Bad U-joint/out of balance driveshaft/bent driveshaft
Track bar loose/bushings bad-very common, even on stock rigs w/higher milage.
The 'tick' get used to itIt's a 4.0, they say "Worry about it if it doesn't tick!"
Steering, if you're used to 'tuner'/drifter cars, than it might just be the fact that it's 4WD. More parts up front, they usually are a bit 'sluggish'
Can also be:
Bad/stiff axle joints,
Bad balljoints
bad/going bad PS pump or PS gearbox.
The squeaks can be dealt with, it's usually plastic on plastic.
Mine comes and goes. Last time I sprayed some silicone lube where the parts rubbed, and it dissappeared for the entire summer.![]()

ok well i just did the well what i thought was impossible but i did it. the jeep is broke, yes so soon. the alternator went kaput, and i just drove 120mi on just a battery alone. impressive, no music, no gauges, no nothing. headlights were about as bright as a glow stick. i was angel lighting with a semi the whole way from tulsa to okc and then to tinker. as far as the jeep itself, its stock no lift, yet, planning a 4'' bastard lift etc etc etc. the ususal. it is burple or amethist or i like to call soon to be painted. the jeep is a 98 i paid 2000 for it, and its 213k on the clock. i'm going to be building a 4.2l stroker for it for over all better power, better torque and reliability. in my previous word with other cars this thing is going to become a whore. a big fat trashy one at that. so out of the 700mi i just drove total, i have spent a night at an oriely autoparts , slept with/in my new jeep, ( i normally wait for dinner and movie but she was just to much of a drama queen to say no to) and she holds the key to my heart and hers, my tool box. yay! im happy despite my shitty luck that i have had over the past two days. but i can already to tell this is going to be an adventurous project!
-ninja edit-
the vib up front is a broken belt on teh driver side front tire. not to bad, still usable for now.

Nice sounding but we want pictures! You should take it to the post shop put it up on the lift and just inspect the hell out of it. Also did you quit the drift scene? I still make time for both myself.
2000 Dodge 2500 SRT6 Cummins Turbo Diesel.
i quit the drift scene for teh time being. the scene is taking a very progressive downward spiral. and it seems to be filled ith d-bags and dude bro's. i want something different. and i have always had a love for jeeps, and i plan to carry on with it. i will probally get back into it in a few years when things settle down. i have a car in my shop back home just waiting to be fixed. and after i get back into it, i'll probally go try for the FD pro-am again and see if i can qualify. came damn close in 07, but missed the cut. we'll see. but til then im going to build me a low buck trail rig and have fun with it. a missile in a sense. the japanese drifters have a car that they call a "missile', pretty much a car that they beat the crap out of at practice, but they bring out their nice car for comps. same thing here minus the second rig.
Burple can look good. My wife's old cherokee.
