    Exclamation Transmission Information Needed

I recently picked up a Jeep J10 that has been modified and after some investigation it seems like it is a 1978 J10 body on a 1971-1973 frame/suspension. Long story short it has a T-15 transmission currently in the truck. Half of me wants to just keep the truck as a mud/beater and scrap after I'm done having my fun. The other half of me wants to try and make this truck a daily driver since it has the 258 straight 6 under the hood. I know some of the YJ's had the 258 in them and ran either the AX15 or the Peugeot BA10. Can anyone give me some information/advice on either one of these transmissions? Also I don't think an AX15 or BA10 would work with my Dana 20 so I would probably need a different transfer case. Has anyone done this or even thought about doing this before?

    Thanks
    Matt

The Peugot tranny sucks, stay away from that one!

CJ's also run the 258 (also known as a 4.2L) and they ran a bunch of different tranny's.

    T-4
    T-5
    T-176
    SR-4
are just some of them. These run the D300 Tcase, same pass side drop as the D20. The D20 may work on these also, not sure there)

What exactly are you looking for?

An easy bolt up tranny, or are you trying to keep it J10 specific restoration?

It would be for any easy bolt up tranmission that would only need an adaptor plate at most. I would like to keep the Dana 20 transfer case but I don't think that is possible. The big concern for asking is I want a tranny that is a 4 or 5 spd without a granny gear.

You should be able to find that (stock) that will bolt right in, as Jeep used the 258/stick/D20 combo in CJ and J trucks.

Most of the tranny's did not have granny low. Some of the T-18's did, but they weren't common.

In around (I believe) '80 the CJ's went to the D300 T-case, before then it was the D20.

Engine's were 232 or 258's, but the bell pattern was the same.

I wish I knew more, but I can say this: Jeep ran 4 speeds with the D20 Tcase, so finding one shouldn't be hard.
