    Default axle upgrades

so im thinking of upgrading my axles. i am thinking of grabbing a hp30 out of an xj since it will bolt right in to my zj. i am also thinking of either an 8.8 or a 44a for the rear. i can get either fairly easy out of the junk yard. also the 44a i can get out of a zj and also bolt right in. im deff gonna upgrade gears to 4.56 or 4.88 and hopefully a locker or 2. what do you all think. i know if i do the 8.8 its gonna require some welding (which i cant do) ive also played with the idea of having them built but that will cost to much money i believe. lets hear some suggestions.

I'm for the 44s, seems bolt ins would be the least expensive way to go. Best bang for your buck.

I personally wouldn't use a D44a. To much deflection in the case.

Where are you getting a D44 Front from an XJ??? That's not stock or ever an option from the factory.

Since your not up to welding. I'd have a set built to my spec's. Cost more ...sure but it will be the axle you want. Even if you were to get a HP30 and D44a for bolt ins. Cost of regearing plus what ever you pay for the axle will add up.

You didn't say what size tires you want to run?
I would go with an hp30 and the 8.8. They both have the same bolt pattern are good for 36" tires.

jeff- the biggest i plan on running is 35 but im leaning to 33s right now
eogeer- most likely would be a weekend warrior with it being my dd right now

im just weighing my options im gonna have about 2500 to play with and want to do some upgrades. i also had the idea of a "super 35" kit from superior axle. i have a few zj friends that are running it and love it. other friends have advised against it. decisions decisions. i would like to not have to spend all of the cash on axles so that i can do a few little things like have some sliders built or order them and a new throttle body was suggested as a good engine upgrade.

i wouldn't waste money on the s35 kit.
for the same price of that kit, you can have an 8.8 set up for your rig that's much stronger.
and hp30's can be found for fairly cheap. should easily be able to do both with your price range.

Toss a D44 or 8.8 in the back and a waggy D44 up front.

Dude, if you decide to build a set let me know. I'll throw the 44/60 I have in the garage your way for $250. I just don't have time or money to deal with them, at least not till the lawyer crap is settled.
