    Default need some help

I need to know what size the 6 bolts are that hold the front bumper on a TJ. I took my bumper off this past summer and I have since lost all the bolts. I'm getting a new bumper that my buddy fab up tomorrow and obviously need new bolts to put it on. If it helps, my TJ is an 02. Thanks for the help.

    Default lost your fasteners

metric threads most likely..........go to lowes and check out hardware bins....also look for grade 8 rated hardware ask for help from hardware department about hardware grading system...it is all about shear strength of hardware.also fastener rating is primarily for NC or NF thread stength-Metrics are handled little differently.....Go to other jeep sites and do your research on this issue.....Do not go Cheap!!
Also hardware bolts are cut a little differently.....auto motive fasteners have taper incorporated where as fatener is installed it will get tighter against thread bore.....hardware fasteners do not have this....you will need to have loctite red or blue threadlocker sealant on mounting threadbores and threads.

If I remember right, they are 1/2"-13. I replaced mine with grade 8 stuff with a hex head instead of a torx head from Ace Hardware. Mine's an '05.

Thanks guys. Yes, ColoFreeJeeper, I found out today that they are 1/2"-13 grade5. I went and bought some grade 8s tonight. Thanks again.

just a thought if you will use your bumper as a recovery point and I have no idea on TJ setup it is sometimes better to go to a grade 5 as it is not as brittl as a grade 8... Just my $ .02

The brittleness of any hardened bolt only affects those with over 180 ksi tensile strength. Grade 5 bolts have 120 ksi and Grade 8 have 150 ksi. A Grade 5 bolt will fail significantly sooner that a Grade 8 bolt will even start to deform under both shear and tension loads.

Non-critical connections (alternator brackets, light bars, antenna mount, fender flares..etc.) can get Grade 5. Anything that matters.. Grade 8.

Keep in mind that most hardware store Stainless Bolts are about Grade 2.
