I always vote armor and cage....
As I mentioned in my intro, I have not owned a Jeep for at least 10 years and I need to get up to speed on the latest and greatest for them on the trail. The 85 CJ7 I will be picking up in the next week has already been modified into a trail truck, but as y'all know just cause it's good doesn't mean it can't get better, and of course I want to add my two cents or more to it. This is what it has in it so far as I've been told by the current owner,
Currie ford 9 inch detroit locker disc brakes and 4.10 gears Warn premium lockouts
Dana 30 detroit locker 4.10 gears Warn premium lockouts
Twin sticked Dana 300 adapted to a real T18a 4 speed with the 6.32:1 Granny gear
Electric Fans
Warn 8000 pound winch with roller fairlead
Has rock slider shackle plates
2.5" suspension lift, small shackles and 1" body pucks.
Optima Red Top battery
258 carb
Open to ideas, suggestions and must haves for this is my new baby and I need it to do every thing and more that I will throw at it.
Thanks

with my CJ i went cage and belly up.
The stock cage blows ass and you can find a YJ/CJ cage for a decent price.
The belly up is self-explaining. Your drivetrain hangs loooooooow. I went to an offroad park and did their medium/medium-hard trails on stock with my only concern being the tcase I kept beating up.
Knock those two out and a couple of teh biggest vulnerabilities are out of the way (dying and breaking)
Here are the only pics of her I have right now, and as for the cage I was talking with a buddy back home about that A MUST have for the places he plans on taking me, hopefully he has one just sitting around from his 74 CJ should fit right

Look close and hard at the frame. If it is coming out of the north expect body and possiably frame rot. I not saying this to discourage you. You simply need to inspect it real close or you will be dealing with frame restoration.

Pretty sure I've seen that CJ. (the white windshield frame sticks in my mind)You buying back home?
I would do the belly up. I clocked my D300, easy to do. I think I did a tech write up on here about it.
I then made my own cross member and skid plates, gained about 4" clearance.
Rocker protection. The rocker guards look to be aluminum step tread, they don't hold up. (ask how i know) If they are steel, they'll probably be OK.
MC2100 carb and 'Nutter Bypass'- If it still has the Carter BBD carb and ECU, get rid of them! The MC2100 is a great upgrade!
Distributor-if it's stock, upgrade to an HEI or TFI dizzy, makes a world of difference.
Cage- make sure you tie it into the frame. There's a guy in Barnum, MN that helped me build mine. (Russell is his screen name, but he's not on here much. He's on MN-Jeep quite a bit)
He built a bender, and has the Bend Tec computer program, results are awsome!
I lost all my bookmarks and favorites when my laptop crashed, but I'll find ya some links.

The CJ frames usually go bad in the back, from the arch above the axle, to the rear 'bumper'. If you can get pics of that, it would be great.
If the frame is solid there, the rest should be OK.
Another spot is where the steering gearbox attatches, but that usually from running big tires (think 35-38")
