    Default Dual Battery

Ok I am looking for a parts list to go to O'Reily's or Autozone and build or put together my own dual battery setup. Thank you for any guidance. I am really trying to get away from buying a kit! Cheers!

Here's one I found on JF just from a Googly

No BIC or anything, he said it works fine.

I like the idea of an Isolater though, as it will keep one battery charged, if there is a drain/short somewhere.

There is also a link to the "12V Guy" on this thread, he makes good stuff, and is reasonably priced (compared to others)

I've been contemplating this myself, but the $160+ for another Yellow top has me wondering

dual batteries set ups are great. Just make sure all is good. Had a friend that set it up and the 2nd battery that was set up wrong and drained.

No my alternator doesn't keep up, on our night runs when I am running lights and cb, stereo and trying to winch, I have to shut off my lights unplug my amp and run at about 1800 rpms to maintain power or stuff starts flickering and the dash lights go crazy!

You need to get a decent alt before you start pulling from it to keep a 2nd battery charged. Talk to some of the electrical shops in your area to see if any of them will re-wind yours to higher output. That should help a LOT. Then toss your other batt in there....fwiw.

It would be possible, but not practical. Having 2 'feeds', it would need some kind of regulator, so you don't over charge.

It's simpler to just install a high amp alt, or have the stock one rewound.

Newer XJ's came with a high out put alt.

You can hook 2 batteries together, without the isolater. That will give you twice the reserve and twice the CCA. But if there is a drain, like a light being left on, it will drain both batteries, and leave you with a 'no start' condition.

Seems to be a lot of pro's and con's to using a BIC. I want to install not only dual batt's in the CJ, but one in the M416 trailer, for lights and a water pump. Still looking for a good way to do that.

I would like to see write up on how to do this. I do not tinker with anything dealing with electricity, I wait for a good write up to follow.
