    Default chainsaws

    hey there-

just picked up a chain saw for the jeep and am looking for ideas on how to carry it etc. I have an 07 JK that I also use as my daily driver so I am not sure that I would leave it in the rig all the time but I also don't want to just toss the case behind the seat when I go wheeling.

Anyone have any ideas for a mount or suggestions for carrying it?

I would think you'd be able to rig something up to attach a regular chainsaw mount to your rear roll bar.
The only mounts I've seen have been attached to roof racks.

I'd put it on your front bumper so you don't have to even get out to cut something down.

Make a 'sleeve' that the bar fits in, and attatch that to the swing out tire carrier.

Attatch it so the bar slides in straight down, or a slight angle, and use a snubber to hold it.

Then, run a cable through the handle of the saw, the spare, the shovel and Hi-Lift.

I use a 'Python' cable from Master Lock, the end is the cable, so it fits through the holes in the Hi-Lift.

For a sleeve, we use a piece of 2x6, and run the chainsaw into it from the end, making a custom fit sleeve, that won't hurt the chain.
(gotta be really steady doing this!) Another way, is to use 2 1x6's, and a router. Router out the space for the beaver tail, then glue the 2 boards together.

My sleeve is at the cabin, so I can't get a pic right now.

Here's the cable lock I use:

I bought a hitch haul mini rack from walmart for cheap. The plan is to turn it into a rick like this Garvin Industries rack. I don't take the saw often but this is easy access for when I do.

Infidel, I have seen Jeeps where they took a hard plastic chain saw bar cover and screwed, bolted, ziptied it behind the spare tire. When they hit the trails they simply slide the chainsaw into the sleeve and then bungy cord the handle so it won't bounce out. I have also seen them sitting on the inside of the tub in back on top of the rear wheel well strapped to the roll bar.
