Cool transfer case shift knob replacement

2006 Wrangler Rubicon...Trying to replace the transfer case plastic handle with a billet knob. Quadratec guarantees that the knob will fit (it's threaded) but I can't figure out how to get that plastic handle off. Tried to twist it off but it won't budge. I am hesitant to use tools that will put more force because I don't want to break anything.... could anyone help this simple Infantryman? Thanks!

I have never pulled a factory one, but if it a friction fit, you might want to pull it up to the rear position and try putting a little heat from a heat gun on it and pulling.

I tried doing the same thing about a year ago... I gave up. Ended up deciding I was just going to get the novak shifter and replace the whole assembly. Still haven't gotten around to that either.
Let me know if you figure it out

Here is a coupoe of write ups from JKOwners.com, it might help.

From what I am reading it just pops off, although it seems to be on really tight.

I'm Mike, make sure you spell it right, because I do not want to get the wrong A$$hole in trouble.

If you do not have time to do it right the first time, how do you have time do do it over?
