Default How much rust is BAD on an XJ???

I'm looking at this Jeep for a friend and need to know how hard it will be to fix the rust on the floor area...

Jeep will cost about $900 (down from 1500... )

I actually don't think that would be too bad of a deal... I mean it would take a little bit of work... but I think in the end for the price it would be well worth it... As long as you guys can do the repairs yourself it would make it even more worth it...

I have seen worse get fixed.

The 'Uni-Frame' and rockers look solid, so it may not be bad.

Check the roof, right at the windshield pillar, the XJ's are known to rust out there, and that can be a hard area to repair.

The price is right, as said, especially if you guys can do the work yourselves.

When I test drove it, I did hear some wind noise... didn't know it that was normal...

    The roof line seemed OK...

My XJ ('99 Limited) has a lot of wind noise, at least compared to other vehicles.

Most XJ's I've ridden in have some 'whistles' and/or sound tinny.

The door seal along the windshield pillar like to fall off on mine, then it's really noisy!

My $0.02....... That corrosion is extensive and thats just what you can see. Imagine the areas such as inside frame rails, hinge areas of the doors, hatch, hood etc...It looks like the structural integrity may be compromised. The only thing preserving the drive train is numerous oil leaks that have coated the components preventin corrosion...I'd say dont buy the headache.....

more details about the rig are needed. Year? axles? motor? the price to me seems a little high and the rust is a bit much for a unibody

Find another XJ with less rust. Older stock XJ's go for pretty cheap as it is.... he'll get burned out real quick trying to take care of the corrosion instead of playing with it.

Looks like it's got a leaky transfer case too.
