Time to crack the case and have a look-see.
An NP231 with the correct intput gear would be the way ro go.

John's (JGStil's) has an 84 XJ with the 2.8L V6. It has a NP207 - "Command-Trac" part-time only - 2.61:1 ratio low range - used 84-87
The Shifter feels like the linkage is not hooked and the 4wd does not engage.
What should we be looking at for this to get it to at least engage?
Would a better TCase bolt up to this jeep and what would that TCase be?

fred I have a 207 now since I am putting the 231 in my jeep But no linkage have to save that for myself after selling the one that was on 231 not knowing I might need it lol ...
Live life to the fullest you will never make it out alive..
send JGStil a PM and see if you guys can work something out. I don't know if the TCase is bad, if a Vacume line is bad, or if it is because of the linkage. I am aiming toward a vacume line

i would crawl under it and try to run the linkage by hand. can you feel the detents with the shifts? i dont believe its a CAD axle so there shouldnt be a issue there.
no the shifter moves freely but the only thing the shifter does is 4lo or 4hi there is a switch on the console that activate 2 WD or 4WD.
