what is this under my hood

...this might be a noob question, but what is this black canister under my hood that has a few lines that go into the intake manifold. I did a google search and failed and i can't find my chiltons manual. Here is a pic, and this is on a 97 TJ with the 4.0

location: it is mounted on the drivers side inner fender, between the horn a master cylinder.

Yep, charcoal canister. It's an emissions thing.
