IIRC, Mad Rooster makes a doubler kit for using (2) 231s. Doubling your gear reduction is the main benefit. Ideally, you'd want regular low in one case and 4:1 in the other case, thereby giving you 4 different range selections.
I have a second NP231 sitting in TN out of a TJ that has an SYE already installed. What would I have to do to double 231's on an XJ? Is it possible or even feasable? What are the benifits? I assume twice the gear reduction

My friend has the mad rooster kit in his YJ using the low of his 231 and then he bolted a Dana 300 behind that. IMHO that's the better way to go so your hitting the cast iron, gear driven case with the extra low. If you must keep the left diff drop then you can flip the Dana 300.

And as cheap as I am...even I have to "pay to play"...sorry and good luck!
Nothing wrong with my 231 and when I get to TN I will get the other that has the SYE installed and install that one and then I will have a spare TCase

you need the 23 spline adapter, the plate adapter for the clocking, and a small piece of aluminum welded to the case once you hack it in half.
you could have a new input made for one of the cases and run it divorced but thats wouldnt make any sense at all though.
There is a way to do it dirt cheap like around a hundred bucks, i saved a link at work on what some guy did. i'll post it up tomorrow.

read through this thread. the only problem you might run into is driveshaft being a little short and possible bad angle.
