You would need a snorkel or something to draw it from outside the engines bay in order for to actually be cooler or denser than what you draw under the hood no matter what filter configuration. From what I read that I believe to credible the 4.0 in stock form, not sure about the 2.5, draws all the air it can use through the stock box and filter.

I have a K and N cold air intake on my TJ. Its hard to say if there are much performance or fuel mileage gains. It does sound cool though. Most people I have talked too and threads I have read say it is a waste of money. I kind of agree with them and wish I spent my money on something else like the locker I am saving up for. Just my 2 cents.

i would stay away from an oil impregnated filter like K&N, im really liking the AFE PRODRY7, S&B although the only make filter elements, and the stock paper filter are your best bets.

If you like spending a couple hundred dollars to make your engine bay louder... go for it.
If you've got a 4cyl, put a throttle body from a 6cyl on it, that will give you a little improvement.

breathing easier would never hurt your engine. even if it gets one mile per gallon better it will help.

Remember, if you add the cold air intake, and you don't upgrade your exhaust at least, and probably thottle body as well... Then you are seeing nothing but loss, opening one end does nothing but hurt you, but opening the whole system together is where you will see your gains

this makes no sense and most people who are reading it and not knowing what youre talking about has made them stupider by reading it. how does improving 1 thing decrease performance? every little bit does help, you may only see 1 mpg increase or a slight increase in drivability but it is an improvement. how is improving airflow at one end making a lose? maybe you should read up on volumetric efficiency.

Your engine works like a pump. It can never suck in more than it can pump out. Even if you could get it more air, the engine won't suck it in unless it can push it out. You cannot force air into a motor without a turbo charger or super charge regardless of the design or your air intake. Cooler air is more dense than hotter air. In theory you would have better combustion with denser air but not more air.

More is involved in getting air into the motor than just the intake.

Chrysler spends allot of money designing the components of their vehicles, if they screw it up than there may be a better alternative. If they go t it right than there will be nothing better.
