I don't think you can use the isuzu carriers in the Waggy 44s. I am pretty sure it is a different size ring gear, so I would assume it needs a different carrier.

No dude. 4.10 is the biggest you can go with that carrier. That's what I have. I put in 4.10 thick gears and I like them a lot, but that's behind V8 power.

Oh, I guess I didn't read it right. I have no idea if you swap carriers.

    Default "Oh no you Dit-ant"...

    Wow...be careful what you ask man...LOL! Are all 44s eaqual...in a nut shell...no.
This was a topic on either the FSJ site or the Jeepster Commando site and it rapidly spun into the realm of OMG! Hahaha...
No, not all 44s are the same.
Yes, many will share parts but some are just oddities.
Do yourself a favor and start with what you have...and just research those....or you'll soon find clumps of hair in your fists...
    good luck!

I'd try it. Most rodeo's came with 427 gears. I would get the entire rear out of one though and use it with your waggy front. They had rear disc brakes, 427 gears and a factory limited slip, with the same 6 on 5.5" bolt pattern as your waggy front. No need to get pieces parts when the whole thing will do just fine. I believe that the R/P and carrier goes right into the Waggy, if not you can get that gear ratio out of older FSJ's. If you indeed find a 456 geared rodeo diff, you can get a matching set of 456s from an old 70's 3/4t Chevy D44 front too. To my knowledge the only bastard D44's are the D44A out of the ZJ and WJ and the Rubi D44's.

That's nuts... never thought about putting Isuzu parts in an old Jeep 44. I guess they come in thick gears already and have a small carrier to allow the big R&P. 97 on down rodeos with leaf springs. Those would push 35's real nice and keep the highway revs down.

But you want to go Isuzu gears into a Jeep D44 housing. (right?) The point of the swap is to put beefier gears into a Jeep D44 on the cheap.
