    Default D35 upgrades

OK folks, I want to upgrade the axles on my play Jeep (not my DD) but budget is limited. What do ya'll think of going with Superior 30 spline axles and an Aussie locker? I'm already having it regeard to 4.88 so figure I'll do it all at the same time.
    BTW It's a 2.5L and I'm running 33x12.5 rubber

I don't play on the rocks, just in the mud and sand of NC

Good or Bad idea?? Any other suggestions?

    Thanks

If it were me, I'd take the money for gears, axles and the locker, and invest in an 8.8 or D44.

The D35's are decent DD street axles, but not that great for bigger tires and wheeling.

There are guys who wheel them with no problems, but I've seen to many break out on the trail.

You can usually find an 8.8 w/disc brakes for the price of alloy shafts. (around $3-350)

    8.8
It'll cost you the same as doing a super 30/locker/gears... if not less.

Thanks for the advice guys. No offense to anyone, and I do value you're advice, but I'm gonna stick with my "turd" and do some polishin! LOL

Here's the reason....I got the Jeep for $1200, have sunk a little money into it for lift, tires, bumpers, winch etc but I still have less than $4k total into it. I Wheel my little 4banger with a bunch of guys that run larger rigs, from K5 blazers to F250 Superdutys. I have yet to find a place that the big $$ rigs go that my little cheap 4 banger won't. I'm trying to keep it "little" just to prove a point to my buds and also talk trash to them while backing it up...."you mean your $50,000 Superduty couldn't follow my 4-banger w/ D35 through that hole????!!!" LOL

I'm not trying to build a bulletproof rig, just kinda workin on principalities, SMOKIE! LOL It's fun to hear everyone trash my lil Jeep but then have to eat their words when the rubber meets the mud!

(I also wheel an 88 3/4T lifted/locked Suburban, so I do know what power and strength can do for ya....)

    Default Good for you!

There are hundreds of tow truck drivers that could use the money!!! Build it...sink a bunch of money into it and when, not IF, when it breaks on the trail and your hearing people grumble about having to wait or help. No, most jeepers don't mind helping..but why on earth go against knowledge and common sense to sink a bunch of money into something that will fail!?!
    ok...rant over...best of luck!

Well.... an 8.8 is roughly the same size as a D44.
You can find one for under $300 and brackets and labor would come out to around $1100 total for everything. That's probably pretty close if not less than building your D35.

If you do a locked D35 with 4.88 gears and 33" tires, your friends will eventually be laughing at how you broke an axle shaft or your r&p driving down a paved road.

Just say no brother. I love my 8.8. Make sure you snag one with disc brakes. Made a notable diff in stopping ability. I love my lil 4banger doesnt matter much when in 4low. Check otu www.4bangerjp.com I am drunkencityworker over there. Good flame free tech on how to get the most out of her. The 4.0throttlebody swap was cheap and helped improve response. Make sure you read the faq section. I did my sye and 8.8 at same time that way only have to make one drive shaft and set pinion angle once as well. Happy wheelin. If you have a friend that can do quality welds the price on swap drops dramatically. spring perches can be reused.
