I've used a strap wrench with good results.
I've also wrapped a couple wraps of duct tape around the knob, and used a pipe wrench or channel locks.
Hard not to mar the shift knob this way, even with the tape and a rag.
yea silly I know but in the middle of putting my hand throtal on and the dam shift knob refuses to budge. Any under handed sneaky tricks for getting it to go?

What kind of tranny? On my NP435, the knob has splines, so it pulls straight up.
