    Default Tranny Rebuild

Have 263,350 miles on my WJ and finally have to rebuild the tranny. Reverse gear went out yesterday. You can feel it go into gear and the drive shaft moves when it does, but the Jeep won't move backwards. It drives fine forward. Oh well, with that many miles I can't complain. Guy is saying about $1600 for a complete rebuild.

The worst part is that it went out at a Jeep dealer when I stopped to pick up a part.
I'm Mike, make sure you spell it right, because I do not want to get the wrong A$$hole in trouble.

If you do not have time to do it right the first time, how do you have time do do it over?

If you turn wrenches - you can typically save about $400 if you R&R the tranny yourself. Make sure it won't void any warranty. Some shops won't warranty the work if they they don't do the removal & reinstall.

Both excellent ideas, but I have no where to do it, no garage or pole barn, nor do I have the time. I am a 1 Jeep family so had to rent a car to get to work while it is in the shop.

That's unfortunate. $1600 seams on the high side, but I have had worse( casing was warped & needed replacing) and heard of up to $1800 by some around hear.

Dbl check if there warranty is covered on road trips and by who. Good luck!

All total it is going to be $1926.xx. that includes everything new I.E. clutches, sensors, regulator, torque converter ETC. I told him to replace anything that is wearable. Also had the t-case fluid changed. It will be like a new transmission and I should be good for another 250,000 miles.

There was a snap ring that broke and messed up the reverse and some other things.
