I have only found them on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/102-SSWA-102-inc...QQcmdZViewItem
Anyone know where to purchase the steel whip antennas online? I have always only used the 6 to 7' steel whips on my vehicles and they seem to get me the best reception and transmission capabilities. I haven't been able to find them online to order one. I am not too fond of Firestix or some of the other smaller whips on the market...could just be my technical inability to match/tune them, but the steel ones work great as soon as they're screwed in.

ooh....good point.
No real experience with them. I know when the rack was on the XJ and the antenna was mounted on it, I had about a 15 mile range with a 3ft Wilson. Now that the rack has been forcibly removed from the roof of the XJ, and I have it side mounted, I only get about 7-8 miles with it. That's just with the 3ft Wilson, 21ft of wire, and a Uniden 510.

Just curious, what is the advantage of the steel whip over something like the firstick?
miljeep,
A lot of times in the southeast it comes down to line of sight and having a 102" whip poking above brush lines or year old planted pines helps me receive and transmit. I could all be mental, but I have run firestiks on the same radio and antenna mount and just can't broadcast and receive as well. Throw the steelie on and the radio come alive.
Now, as I said in my original post, it could me my technical inability to tune my radio and antenna during installation which could be the ultimate reason I don't have good luck with firestix. However, I never have had to tune a 84-102" whip and I love annoying the McDonalds and DQ drivethrus with my whip rubbing their overhand and lights ;-) I knock squirrels out of trees too driving through the neigborhood ;-)
