    Default Soft top question

    Hey guys,

I'm bidding on a besttop soft top on ebay but it's not exactly the color I want. How easy is it to recolor/paint a soft top?

That is to say: If I hit it with spray paint, would it look fine? The rest of my jeep is can color anyhow.

They make specific paint for fabrics... don't remember what it's called, but if you look around I'm sure you'll find it. I've seen people use it on soft doors, and turned out looking fine.

I would not mess with trying to recolor a soft top. There are enough cheap tops on Ebay and Craigslist. I just checked the Maine Craigslist and there are a few. It would be worth the drive to Portland or Bangor to pick one up and not have to mess with fabric dye.

I used to recruit from Waterville so I do know what Im talking about.....

Unless the top is free it's not worth it. Just hold out for the color you want.

I diddnt address this. You need to use fabric dye if you go the color change route. Spray paint will not adhere to a flexible surface like fabric. It will flake off and look like azz.

I found a grey top for under $80 but it's not really the color I want. I suppose I could always flip it if I find a deal on one in a color I like.

Sounds like a plan. What color is your Jeep?

Looks great! I like the ACU seat covers and ammo box console.

You are right, a grey top wont look right. Black or tan would be better. Mabe you could have a boat shop stich you a custom top?

I would stay in Craigs list. I see tan tops around here all the time.

There is a top shop here in the springs (they do convertible tops, upholstery, etc). I asked them how much it would cost and they told me it would be cheaper to buy a new top. Getting on made may not be cost effective.
