    Default TJ Hood Light Bar

After a few late night drives on some deer populated back country roads, I decided to invest in a few extra lights. The added visibility will definitely be worth it. I don't care for round lights on top, nor do I want anything on the bumper until a winch is installed. My best option, and the one that I think looks the best, would be a hood light bar. I drew some inspiration from a few different places online, and set out to make one.

After visiting AutoZone, O'Reillys, Advance Auto Parts, Tractor Supply Co, Lowes, and Home Depot, I still couldn't find any lights that I cared for. As a last-ditch effort, we stopped at Wal-Mart, and lo-and-behold, small square fog lights. Leave it to Wal-Mart to carry what you need... So we picked up a few more materials, and got to work

First up, I measured and cut the angled steel which would hold the lights. Then, I test fitted the lights and brackets, and attached them altogether. A little bit of wiring and organizing, and here we are:

I've taped the lenses off, and am going to paint the assembly in the morning with a bedliner. While that is drying, I'll fab the mounts, which will attach to the hood via the hood hinges.

I'm at a bit of a disadvantage because most of my tools are enroute from Afghanistan, so I'm doing all of my fab work with a Dremel. I'll post more pics tomorrow.

Aright, on to a new day... I finished the L brackets, test-fitted everything (see picture below), and am waiting to the paint to dry. Once it's all dry, I'll mount everything, and begin the wiring.

All finished! I'm pleased with the look of everything. Here's some pictures:

I ran the wiring down inside, through the firewall, and wired the switches. Pictures will come in a few days of the switches, but I've got lots to do, so I won't have time.

That looks really good. Kind of makes me want to do something like that.

I really like the look of hood lights. you don't have to worry as much about branches and overhead clearance isn't as big of a concern. I did one of these too. I angled the lights on the sides to light up the edges of the trails. That works pretty good.

the glare is not bad at all. I did use a relay on mine. I don't recall what gauge wire was used but I definitely had to switch out the wiring that came with the lights. It started smoking after a few minutes.
