Default Cummins 4BT in a 1990 XJ Laredo

Anybody think this is a good idea. I'm thinking about doing it but I can't find any real good swap discussions. I've been to alot of different forums and what not but I want to find a build up of one thats not running on an extreme rock crawler. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
The Cummins 4BT is a little 4 cylinder turbo diesel. It'll fit in the XJ's engine bay with little modification.
    Thanks.

With the way the XJ is designed, specifically the unibody, I don't think it would be easy. The 4BT will produce ALOT of torque. You'll have to plate the entire "frame" in the front. You might end up twisting the motor right off the unibody.

Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to see that swap. But I think starting with a vehicle with a real frame would be a better idea.

I did read an article on a LS1 powered XJ. Probably had to do the same supports you're thinking of. I will dig around to see if I can find it.

FrankZ has a screamin V8 in his XJ. I know he has a build thread on NAXJA.

Here it is, stuffing a 5.3 Vortec into an XJ. I'm sure he addressed the torque issues that one would come across doing a 4BT swap.

There has been 4BT swapped XJ's... I just don't remember which of the many forums I have been on over the years I saw it on... will have to look for it again... I have thought of doing the same thing... that or a 4.3L Vortec swap....

It's an outstand swap. Goto the 4bt forum, a guy on there has a MJ with one in it. It's a 4bt NV4500 (froma 3500 ram) with 35's on it. It's corvette yellow. THe guy claims 28 MPG running the guts out it and as high as 36 MPG babying it. His is turned up to 210HP and 500FtLbs of torque.

Well I have heard from 2 - 4bt owners and they both state near the same. I know our 3500 Ram 6bt pulls 22 MPG, so minus 2 cyls and 2500 LBS I can see it. I also have a friend that has a Mercades 5 cyl Turbo diesel in his CJ-7 with an AX-15 D300 456 gears and 33's it pulls 29 MPG for a fact. Cavalier milage in a go any where jeep Diesel is the way to go!
