    Default Weird Clunking Noise

    -06 LJ Rubi, 6sp, 42k

I have a weird clunking/tapping noise coming from the engine area on my Jeep. I almost sounds metal on metal. As far as rhythym, think old diesel that at idle has a clunk every half second apart for a few seconds then settles into every second. The sound goes away, when I press the clutch or pull the gear shifter back against the transmission without the clutch depressed. I only does it at idle, not when driving or when I have done those other two things. It's driving me crazy.

I won't be on the computer much the next few days, but if you have any ideas give me a call or send me a text.

I have a clunking noise on my jeep and it turned out to be the exhaust hitting some of the armor I put underneath.....more specifically, the engine skid.

It seems to happen the most at idle.

could be the clutch assembly itself. try taking the tranny back to look at the pressure plate, throwout bearing and the flywheel. if one of springs in the pressure plate is broken it can make some weird noises before it falls apart. if the fly wheel is blued and warped it could be rubbbing on the clutch assembly, causing the clunking sound. if the throw out bearing is getting worn out it could make some strange noises as well before not working at all.
