    Default Gen-Rite Hood Louvers

Underhood temps are a problem for Jeeps and off-road vehicles in general. My personal Jeep is no different, especially since adding my super charger. Underhood temps have been high and as a result, power has suffered. Also, with my carpet removed and my tub rhino-lined, interior temps were high. During last summer, I actually had to pull over and take my doors off because my right leg was so hot I couldn't take it any more.

We recently picked up Gen Right as one of the brands that we carry. They manufacture various aluminum hood louvers for Jeeps. You can buy a pair of the longer ones, a pair of the almost square ones or you can buy the single large louver panel. You can also buy all 5 in one set. I opted for the whole set for my Jeep.

First off, I will say that the quality is great. All 5 of the panels arrived very well packaged and none of them were bent or damaged in any way. The aluminum is 1/8" thick and Gen Right even supplies aluminum pop rivets so you don't have to worry about corrosion. Black powder coating was available from Gen Right, but I liked the natural finish of the aluminum.

I'm not going to give a full install since Gen Right sends very good instructions. Besides, it's more fun to lay the louvers out where you want. Installation is very straight forward. Once you decide where you want the panels, mark the outlines, draw an outline 1/2" in and then cut. Lay the panel back down, drill your holes and then attach with the supplied pop rivets. Mousee and I went one step further. Instead of using the supplied pop rivets, we opted for 6-32 stainless bolts and attached aluminum expanded metal on the underside of the hood. This helped hide the cuts in the hood.

Here is a pic of my Jeep with all 5 Gen Right panels installed. The only panel that you can't really move too much is the leading edge one. The ends are tapered to follow the hood lines on the factory bulge. Other than that, it's up to you where they go.

After I get a chance to do some driving with the louvers installed, I will post again and let everyone know.

If you are interested in ordering any of the louver panels, shoot me a PM.

Looks nice. I was looking at something similar by poison spyder, but it seemed to lay over the center of the hood.

Yes, I'd like to know how much it brings your under hood temps down.

I'm getting an AEV heat reduction hood and was going to sell my other hood. I'm thinking if I were to do this to the other hood, it would sell much faster. How much is the full set?

You are right, the Poison Spyder panel does cover the whole hood. I am also a dealer for Poison Spyder and I was actually looking at their panel first. When I called, they have moved the expected release date to later in the summer. I needed a solution before this summer really kicked off and I came across the Gen Rite kit.

For those that are asking for pricing; let me make sure I won't get in trouble with admin and I will start posting prices and group buy options.

I will snap some today. We added some expanded metal underneath so that the holes that we had to cut look better. The expanded metal gave it a very nice look and actually helps to keep small debris from going in the louvers.

Here are some underhood shots that I took today.

Here is a broad pic of all 5 with the expanded metal covers that we made:

Here is a closeup of one of them so that you get the idea:
