    Default axle swap

Has anybody swapped out the front axle (Dana 35 with the vacuum motor) to an axle that doesn't have the vaccum motor? I am sick of trying to fix the vacuum lines and i noticed that newer Cherokees do not have the vacuum motor on them

I think youíre talking the D30 front with shift fork Iím guessing out of a yj. I helped a friend change the 2 piece passenger side shaft out of his 89 xj to a one piece from a tj. That eliminates the need for the vacuum lines and motor. There is a good write up of that on Stu-offroad.com (link http://www.stu-offroad.com/axle/yjd30convert/yjconvert-1.htm ) if you do this make sure you write down the seal number in the write up and give it to the parts guy at NAPA. If you try to explain what seal you want you will end up going back three times with the wrong seal until you finally write that trash down. Not that I did that or anything. Or you can always get the cable shift http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=9143

    Hope this helps

Yep, Jeep front axles are D30's (some Explorers run D35 center sections up front)

But yes, you can swap a newer D30 in place of the vacuum disconnect one, or, like devlnutz mentioned, swap in a newer shaft and seal.

I did the cable shift on my old YJ. I like it better since you end up with a 2L 2H 4L 4H depending on if you've locked the front axle and what range you have your tcase in.

I ended up doing a trial fix with a bolt and just lockin the fork in so it was like a straight axle....
