    Default Dumb monday axle question...

Can I flip a Chevy D44 to drivers side? I have one sitting in the garage next to the D60 housing. I know the D60 housing won't work for drivers drop...anybody know if the 44 will?

Nope. At least you can't 'end over end' flip it. The R&P won't get the oil it needs. And it will drive 'backwards', or opposite of the rear.

What you can do, is have a longer tube pressed into the short side, then cut both tubes to where you need the diff centered at.

I have even seen where a guy just extended the short tube, by welding a chuck on the end of it.

No idea how that worked out. Having been a pipefitter, and doing a lot of welds like that, I can say "it should work" and be strong enough. But I don't think I'd try the weld method.

You can find driver drop D44's. I know Fords had them, and I think some Chevs were also.

That's what I figured, I was just trying to be a cheap bastard and use what i already had...I guess it's time to see if anyone wants to swap 44's.

do you have BOM's for the axles? i never knew/heard/seen as drivers drop chevy 44/10 bolt before. its not that difficult to retube an axle. theres alot of shops in san diego that will do it fairly cheap if you strip down the housing.
