try the fuel filter
Hey everyone, its been about a week since my last post... been REAL busy at work.
In the last week I've continued my tune-up work on this newly purchased TJ of mine.
Anyway, I've encountered quite a problem and could REALLY use some of your expertise please...
Here's the problem:
Most of the time I notice it when its cold, but not all the time. I start up the Jeep, back out of the driveway, parking space, etc. Put it in 1st, start forward momentum, shift to second and it becomes ALMOST unresponsive with a terrible lag/sputter for approx. 1-2 seconds and then a jerk or two (not this jerk BTW) and then runs normally. I'm stumped TBH. I've recently changed plugs, wires, oil/filter, checked ALL fluids, cap/rotor, etc. etc. etc.
Please... someone point me in the right direction. I'll take a list of things to go and check, just let me know... and thanks Jeepers !!!

So I don't have to drop the tank? Sounds much easier now. Thanks a million. Its been a few years since I really listened to a school bus... and my son is only 5 y/o. It doesn't sound too healthy though, but could just be cuz it's really doing nothing during this mess.

when my jeep is cold the auto choke makes it sound like a big diesel rollin out and until that auto choke cuts out it does strange things.
double check me by crawlin under the jeep and lookin in the area in front of the tank to make sure the filter is right there

According to my Hayne's manual:
"Only 1987 -1995 models use a replaceable in-line fuel filter. The manufacturer does not suggest periodic fuel filter replacement on 1997 and later models. Sonce the FF is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the fuel tank on 1997 and later models."
This = a hugh uh oh for this guy... this is w/out crawling under it though. We have one REAL nasty thunder and lightning storm going on at the moment.
